Obituary of Eric Peake

Eric Peake, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Colleen Peake, and his children, Pam Eveleigh (Craig), Heather Peake (Brad), Julie Topp (Adam), Rob Kirk (Christina), and Ang Choe (Ron). Eric was also cherished by his grandchildren, Mark, Scott, Evan, Oliver, Zak, Kai, Theo, and Weller.

 

Born on October 8, 1937, in Chesterfield, England, Eric lived a life marked by passion, curiosity, and adventure. A distinguished chemist, Eric conducted groundbreaking research, including studies on lunar rocks and air quality with the Alberta Research Council and the University of Calgary. His enthusiasm for research distinguished Eric throughout his life.

 

Beyond his professional achievements, Eric was a true mountain enthusiast. His spirit of adventure led him to scale peaks around the globe, with a particular love for the majestic mountains of Alberta. Whether backpacking, backcountry skiing, or hiking through rugged terrain, Eric and Colleen found peace, adventure, and joy in nature's embrace. He shared these mountain adventures with friends and family, fostering bonds and creating cherished memories that will endure.

 

Eric captured the beauty of the natural world with a keen photographer’s eye and artistic flair. His passion for photography documented his travels, which took him to breathtaking destinations across the globe. From the towering peaks of the Himalayas to the tranquil landscapes of New Zealand, Eric's lens captured the essence of each location, leaving behind a visual legacy for generations to come.

 

Throughout his life, Eric Peake embodied a spirit of exploration, curiosity, and love for the mountains. His legacy, including his passion for inquiry and for adventure, lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.

 

A Memorial Service will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home.
