Obituary of Elinor Joy Bishop

April 2, 1954 – Chipmans Corner, Nova Scotia

April 7, 2024– Calgary, Alberta

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of my mom, Elinor Joy Bishop (nee Rogers) of Calgary, AB, who passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Elinor was born on April 2, 1954, the third oldest child born to Claude and Freda (Davidson) Rogers of Chipmans Corner, NS. Relatives tell me that mom cherished her family, but she adored the love of her father and the values he instilled in her. That is why she named me Claudia, in memory of him.

Mom married Brian Bishop on August 3, 1974. Their love shined bright. Claude (my grandfather) gave them the nickname of “Bonnie and Clyde”. They had many adventures together and went to live in Alberta for a while, before moving back to Nova Scotia to build a house across from her family home.

In 2006, Mom moved out to Alberta again to accompany me in my educational endeavors. Friends and family describe my mom as a strong, loving, supportive, and kind person with a great sense of humour. She had a love for animals, spending time with friends and family, and being by the ocean. She was very knowledgeable at business, and some would say a pretty shred poker player too.

My mom was my best friend, she was the light that guided me, just as a lighthouse helps guide vessels safely in and out of harbors. She was a courageous and adventurous warrior, who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Elinor is survived by her only daughter Claudia Bishop-Benoit, son-in-law Tyler Benoit, and grandson Caine Benoit of Okotoks, AB. Elinor is also survived by her mother Freda Rogers, sisters, Velma Keizer (Grayson) and Connie Rogers (Bob Gaudet); brother Bruce Rogers (Karen), and former spouse Brian Bishop (Susan Feener), all who reside in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.

Elinor was predeceased by her father Claude Rogers and brother Kirk Rogers.
