Obituary of Myles Jack Bernard

March 2, 2003 – Calgary, Alberta

April 3, 2024 – Edmonton, Alberta

Myles Jack Bernard of Calgary, AB, died Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the age of 21 years, at the University of Alberta after a secret battle with an insidious darkness that he could not overpower. He was studying Mining Engineering and was about to embark on his first Co-op work term in Fort McMurray in May. All outward indications were that he was excited for this next phase of his life.

Myles was a fun-loving and adventurous spirit. His family, dad Maurice (Mo), mom Jackie, and brother and best friend Mason, were a tight unit. They equally loved spending all their free time together, whether it was relaxing at home or traveling, hiking, skiing, and various other adventure activities. Through his teen years, most weekends were spent at Panorama, BC, skiing in winter and hiking and golfing in the summer months. Most of his young life included multiple visits to his Baba and Grandpa at Nutimik Lake, MB, or Grandma and Grandpa at their farm near Wetaskiwin, where he enjoyed exploring all the fun they had to show him. He also enjoyed numerous vacations together with his family, going on a Disney Cruise, multiple visits to Disney parks, Universal Studios, Six Flags, and Legoland. He and Mason just loved the thrill of fast rides and mega coasters. They also explored Toronto, Niagara Falls, the Bahamas, Hawaii, Mexico, Whistler, and Alaska.

As a young boy, Myles had a passion for Lego and into his high school years, became involved in the Robotics Club. He loved to read a variety of books, especially fantasy novels and comic books. He was also an avid gamer. As he matured into a young man, he ventured on a solo trip to Vancouver, proving what a fearless and independent young man he was becoming.

Besides being tight with Dad, Mom, and Mason, he was extremely close to his Baba, Grandma, uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his father Maurice Raymond Bernard, mother Jacqueline Mae Bernard (nee Murash), and brother Mason Michael Bernard. On his father’s side, Grandmother (Mary) Coral Fleck, Uncle Tim, Aunt Rhonda, and cousins, Autumn and Kael; his Uncle Jason, Aunt Andrea, and cousins Heather and Taylor, all of Calgary, AB. On his mother’s side, Grandmother Joan Murash of Calgary, AB, and his Uncle Barry and Aunt Mary Gwen, and cousins Max and John of North Carolina, USA.

Myles was predeceased by his grandfathers, Michael (Mike) Samuel Murash and John Peter (Jack) Fleck.

The depth of sorrow felt with the loss of Myles cannot be adequately expressed. His physical presence will forever be missed but he will live on peacefully in our hearts.

A private family service will be held.
