Barry Price

Obituary of Barry Ian Price

November 16, 1972 - Belfast, Northern Ireland

April 7, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

It is with incredible sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Barry, beloved son of Lynda and David, dearly loved brother of Gavin and much-loved uncle of Owen. He will be fondly remembered by aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and work associates in Canada and Northern Ireland (NI).

Barry was born in Belfast, NI, and immigrated to Calgary, AB, Canada with his family at the age of four.

Barry loved to ski. He loved helping and working around the acreage and especially spending holidays in Parksville, Vancouver Island, BC. He was proficient at using Calgary Transit and could tell anyone how to get around. His favourite food was fish n’ chips, and he loved coffee. His passions were the “Titanic” and Christmas time. Pastimes included his computer and enjoying interactions with his kitty Lucy.

Barry loved books and worked at the University of Calgary Bookstore, and Shelf Life Books. He also worked at Canadian Tire Dalhousie. The Progressive Alternatives Society of Calgary provided terrific work support to Barry. Neighbours, several members of the Irish Cultural Society, and special friends also supported Barry and his family.

Barry’s personal friends included longtime contacts such as Louise, an email pen pal from Bangor, NI; Michael, a longtime family friend; and Jordan, a close neighbour. In the past months, we were fortunate that Anna became connected to our family. In the final few weeks of Barry’s journey, Lisa, along with many staff from the Care Team at Dulcina Hospice, helped provide a sense of dignity, kindness, compassion, fun, and peace. Many have sent words of heartfelt thoughts, spent time with Barry, and provided practical support to Lynda and David.

Barry showed extreme courage in his year-long fight with cancer. He appreciated the kindness and professionalism of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre staff.

For those warm people who met Barry, descriptions of him included having an amazing work ethic, a great sense of humour, politeness, expressive eyes, graciousness, and good to be with. He had a beautiful soul. We are so proud of Barry, for all he has done, all he has said, and for all he has given to us and others. He has left us much too soon, but is now at peace.

A Celebration of Barry's Life Journey will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 2:00 p.m for family and friends.
