Obituary of Allan Sharp

December 28, 1941 – Calgary, Alberta

March 25, 2024 – Cochrane, Alberta

Allan Sharp, beloved husband of Linda Sharp, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the age of 82. Allan was a lifelong resident of Madden, AB, and a well-known community member. He was born on December 28, 1941, in Calgary, AB.

Allan was a devoted family man. He married Linda, the love of his life, in 1966 and they recently celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Allan was blessed with two children, Bobbie (Bruce) and Mark (Colleen). He was also a proud grandfather to Jordan (Brad), Taylor (Ben), Jesse (Victoria), Katelyn, and Sydney; and great-grandfather (known as Big Poppa) to Oliver, Forester, and Collins, with whom he shared his stories, humour, love of animals and many other passions. He is also survived by his sister, Vickie, and many nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his sister Lynn.

Allan graduated from Westbrook School. Following graduation, he worked as a carpenter and later relocated to Dalroy, AB, and worked on the Koosey farm. In 1971 he took over the family farm in Madden. He continued to work the farm with his wife Linda and his son Mark until he was 81. Allan was a dedicated farmer and rancher, who took great pride in his farm and his cattle. He enjoyed working the cattle and was accompanied by his dog Duke and later Ben. His motto was, “Why walk if you can ride?” Therefore, he was usually mounted on his horse. In the early years, it was Buck and then his trusty mount was Cash…named after all the “cash” he spent on him.

In his spare time, he enjoyed participating in and attending rodeos, curling, and was a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He also had a love for travel, having been on memorable trips to Africa, Hawaii, Alaska, England, Europe, Mexico, and the Panama Canal.

Allan was a member of the Lions Club and enjoyed supporting his community. He will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humour, and his love for animals. Allan also had a passion for music and theatre. He took pride in everything he did and believed in doing things right. His memory will live on through his family, friends, and the community he was so deeply rooted in. Allan will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Allan’s Life will be held at Madden Community Hall (Range Road 30, Rocky View No. 44, AB), on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow promptly.
