Obituary of Kathleen Louise Bast

June 29, 1945 - Preeceville, Saskatchewan

April 7, 2024 - Calgary, Alberta

Kathy Bast passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the age of 78 years in Calgary, AB, surrounded by her loving family.

Kathy was born on June 29, 1945, in Preeceville, SK, and also lived in Canora, Moose Jaw, Melville, Yorkton, and Regina, before moving and settling in Calgary in 1995.

Her passion for spending time with her family was evident to all who knew her. They were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with her husband, Anthony, her son Greg (Gerri-Lynn), her daughters, Tammy (Charlie) and Lori (Scott); her grandchildren, Ryan (Chantelle), Mallory, Kate, and Max; and her great-grandchildren, Hawksley, Hendrix, and Harlow. We are heartbroken with the loss of our beautiful Wife, Mom, and Nan. We will deeply miss her wisdom, her sense of humour, and her style.

Kathy loved the outdoors and was well known for her green thumb in her garden and flowerbeds. Some of her happiest moments were spent tending to the beautiful flowers in her yard. Kathy was an avid reader, enjoyed music and dancing, and had a love for shopping with her family. She was particularly proud of founding her chapter of the Red Hat Society in Calgary. She loved to travel, especially to warmer climates! She spent many summers at the family cottage in Saskatchewan and winters in Mesa, AZ, where she could soak up the sun.

Kathy was a popular and valued employee of SGI in Regina and Co-operators Insurance in Calgary, where she worked until her retirement in 2010.

In addition to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Kathy leaves behind her beloved sister Joyce and her many nieces and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her mother, Martha Gorenko, and her sisters, Anna, Sandra, Donna, and Luba.

We would like to thank all those who have offered their support and condolences during this difficult time. Your kindness will always be remembered.

A Celebration of Kathy’s Life in Calgary will be announced at a later date.
