  7. Chris Jurewicz :

    To the Zuurbier family,

Alison and I were extremely saddened to hear the news.

We went to Mount Royal College with Peter in the early 2000s and had some great times with him. Peter was one of the smartest people I have ever met. I also have fond memories of his love of music. Peter introduced me to music and bands that I had never encountered and he was a really passionate music fan.

We offer the family our deepest sympathies and will always remember Peter.

  8. To Cathy and family:

This is a great loss for not only your family, but for Peter’s friends and his colleagues in the academy. I will always remember him as a brilliant and passionate scholar who cared deeply about advancing human knowledge, and helping his colleagues and his students learn. His writing and publishing a groundbreaking book during his doctoral studies is a remarkable achievement, speaking to just how dedicated and ahead of the game he was.

He had a keen zest for life. There was never a shortage of intriguing conversation topics with him due to his deep knowledge of all manner of topics beyond the academy, from contemporary politics and environmental issues, to literature and professional sports in general and the Boston Red Sox in particular.

He was a hugely generous soul, caring greatly for the welfare of others.

I miss him and feel blessed to have known him, gone to school with him, and been his friend.

All good wishes to Peter’s family at this tragic time. We are much richer for having him in our lives.
