ZUBRECKI, Beatrice Doris

January 22, 1930 – Kerrobert, Saskatchewan
November 30, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beatrice Zubrecki, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the age of 88 years.

Beatrice is survived by her son Douglas Zubrecki (Vanessa) and her daughter Karen Bayer (Kurt); her grandchildren, Sarah Henderson (Duncan), Connor Zubrecki and Lindsay Bayer; sister Dorothy Martin and special friend John Creelman. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Zubrecki, and siblings, Thomas Webb, Edith Smith, and Ada Mewis.

Beatrice was born in Kerrobert, SK and grew up on the family farm near Major, SK where she loved to ride horses and was always eager to help with chores. At the tender age of eighteen, she moved to Saskatoon where she worked in retail and healthcare. She married Harry Zubrecki, the love of her life, on June 30, 1958. Together they raised two children and created a loving home. Beatrice loved gardening and baking and was famous for her shortbread cookies and butter tarts. She leaves us with many cherished family recipes. An avid shopper, she could never pass up a bargain. Although Harry left her far too soon after a lengthy illness, she maintained her positive outlook and zest for life and family. Constantly willing to provide a helping hand, you always left her home with a sense of fulfilment. Beatrice’s grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was never without an “old-fashioned” story or special treat. As much as she loved Saskatchewan, Beatrice moved to Calgary in 1999. Life in Alberta introduced her to travelling, new friendships and many different experiences.

A special thank you to the staff at both Southwood Care Centre and Wentworth Manor who cared for Mom after her stroke in 2013 and during her final days.

A private family function will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Home, Park Memorial. Graveside Service and cremation internment to be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK in Spring 2019.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke foundation. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Beatrice Zubrecki, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Dear Karen, Doug, Kurt, Vanessa and family….

Midge and I reflected on the time we spent with Bea. Whether meeting her at your wedding, Lindsay’s first birthday or even singing with her as carolers were at your front door a few Christmas’s past, she was always loving and fiercely proud of her family. We know she will leave a hole in your lives.
