Wróbel, Barbara Franciszka, (nee Benicka)

April 4, 1942 – Oct 17, 2016

Barbara, beloved mother of Iwona Wrobel and Agnieszka Kotecka,  passed away suddenly but peacefully on 17th of October, 2016, at the age of 74 years.

Barbara was born in 1942 in Poland, which was then under Nazi occupation. She spent the first three years of her life moving with her mother and sister, avoiding persecution from the German soldiers who were searching for her father, a member of the Underground Polish Army.

As a young woman, Barbara earned a degree in Chemical Sciences at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. She enjoyed a very successful career as a chemist with a large chemical company in Tarnow, Poland. She married Marian Wrobel and together they had two daughters Iwona and Agnieszka.

Barbara had a wonderful sense of adventure, and loved to travel to destinations both near and far. She lovingly created many online photo albums and reflections with which she graced her family and friends. Barbara had a passion for flowers and music, with Chopin her absolute favourite.

When her daughter Iwona moved to Canada, Barbara’s wonderful sense of adventure led her to share her life with family and friends in Canada and Poland. She was undeterred by the challenges of learning a new language and living in another country, and met this challenge with her usual zest for life. She was always thrilled to return to Poland and spend time with her daughter Agnieszka, her son-in-law Piotr and her beloved grandchildren.

While medical problems progressively limited her physical abilities, her spirit, strong mind and determination kept her active, and travelling, until the very end.

Barbara will be dearly missed her daughters Iwona Wrobel, and Agnieszka Kotecka, her sons-in-law Kevin Schilling and Piotr Kotecki, her grandchildren Katarzyna, Maciej, and Jakub, her sister Czeslawa and brother-in-law Bogdan Domeracki, her former husband Marian Wrobel and many other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life and Prayers will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church (2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W.) on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to take place in Tarnów, Poland. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Barbara Wrobel, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.

    Iwona,
Our thoughts are with you and Kevin at this time in your lives. Your Mom was a joy to behold. Her enthusiasm when delivering a story related to her pictures, or her botanical knowledge base was a pleasure to behold and receive. The connection you had with your Mom was also a joy to witness. May the peacefulness from your faith be with you now and always.
