January 4, 1935 – Campbellton, New Brunswick
October 12, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

A tribute to my mom,

Joan Witwicki passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Joan was born in Campbellton, NB on January 4, 1935 to John and Isabelle McLardie. As a young girl her father moved the growing family to Kingston, ON, Joan being the oldest of five girls. After graduating from Secretary School, Joan with some girlfriends set off on an adventure. They were heading to Australia. She only got as far as Calgary, where she met the love of her life John Witwicki. They married on August 8, 1959 and started a family. They welcomed their daughter Kim and then their son Michael into their lives. Their family was complete. Joan simply loved life and people. Her friendly personality led her to have a great circle of friends. She spent her time gardening, going for walks, golfing, curling, camping and traveling. John and Joan traveled the world and enjoyed the cultures of the countries they visited. One of those trips led her and John to Australia. The biggest accomplishment that Joan experienced in her life was being a mom. She loved her children and her grandchildren Bryan and Samantha unconditionally. On one of his last visits to be by his grandma’s side, Bryan told her she was the best cook, specially her blue berry pancakes. She was a fantastic cook and loved to entertain family, relatives and dear friends. My mom has now joined her husband John and her son Michael and so many other people that were part of her life. She will be deeply missed by her sister Mary, Ellwood’s mom Evelyn, nieces and nephews and family friends. We were proud to have you as my mom, a mother-in-law and a grandma.

You will be missed,
Kim, Ellwood and Bryan Radies

My mom will be cremated at McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes. Then she will come home with me. In the spring of 2019 we will have a party to celebrate her life and her accomplishments. More information to follow. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of Joan Witwicki, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  2. I will always remember Aunty Joan’s infectious laugh and your Dad calling out for her “Red!” and getting 11 cents from one of them for us to walk all the way to the cornerstone to buy a cream sickle. And of course her delicious pagachi.

  3. Kim and Family,
I only learned today of your Mom’s passing and was very saddened by the news. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Your Mom (and Dad) were awesome neighbors to me (and Brian) and we made many wonderful memories over the 20+ years that they lived across the alley. Your Mom was one of the kindest, sweetest and most thoughtful people I have had the privilege of knowing. She is thought of often and her friendship will forever be cherished.
