WILSON, James Fletcher

James F. (Jim) Wilson CA/CPA of Calgary, AB, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 97 years.

Jim was born in Edmonton, Alberta, on April 9, 1922 and spent his early years in California and in rural locations throughout Alberta prior to the family settling in Edmonton. With the onset of WWII he volunteered for the RCAF and served in Canada, Great Britain and Europe. Following the war Jim attended the U of A completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree prior to articling in chartered accountancy with Winspear and Company in Edmonton. Upon receiving his CA designation he joined a private practice before relocating to Calgary in 1955 where he worked in the oil and gas industry until his retirement in 1982. Jim married Mary McKnight MacDonald, of Edmonton, in 1949 and they had one son, Robert, born in 1952. Jim and Mary were long-term members of the congregation at Grace Presbyterian Church where both were very active in the life of the church. Jim served as an elder for many years, visiting members of the congregation and participating in the management of the Church. He was particularly proud of the work done over the years refurbishing and improving the iconic pipe organ in the main sanctuary. Jim and Mary maintained a residence in Elbow Park throughout their time in Calgary and cherished the great friendships they developed with neighbours in that part of the city.

Jim is survived by his son Robert, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Ahearn of Edmonton and 2 grandchildren, Laure Wilson (Michael Murphy) of Edmonton, and David Wilson (Anna), of Grande Cache as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Malcolm and Meghan Murphy, and Hazel Wilson. Jim is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Johnston (MacDonald) of Edmonton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jim was predeceased by his loving wife Mary and his parents Alice A. and Harry W. Wilson.

Funeral Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Thanks to the staff on unit 74 at Rockyview who provided great care in his last days and to the wonderful staff and fellow residents at Trinity Lodge where he lived happily for thirteen years. Donations in lieu of flowers would be gratefully received by the Grace Presbyterian Church Pastoral Fund. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
