WILLS, Arlo Tennant

July 22, 1923 – October 31, 2016

Our father was a kind, generous, peaceful, quiet man. He valued harmony and equality. He was fascinated by technology, and when he became unable to leave his home he was amazed to be able to use FaceTime on a cell phone to visit with family and friends. He spent hours enjoying TV and until his eyesight worsened, read feverishly. He followed the news passionately and was eager to discuss current events at any time.

Arlo cared about his family (wife Fran: 1940 – 2006); children Doug (Tina), Pam, and Greg (Jan); grandchildren (Tateanna, Christopher). He was a small business owner of the Art and Gift Emporium in Calgary for more than 40 years.

In his final months he was unselfishly cared for by Jan, Greg and Christopher with help from Pam. He was visited by Doug and Tina, Eadie and Rob, and Jerry and Joyce. Jan’s nephew Curtis and his son Malicha made Arlo’s life easier by repairing the bathroom. Arlo died peacefully, in his own home, his own room and in his own bed; exactly as he wished.

  1. Bernie and Trudy Linke

Doug, your dad was a remarkable man. Although I did not know him, the stories you told of his love for his craft, and his persistence in being involved in it every day, even after his cancer surgery, are such an inspiration. What a wonderful example of how to keep sharp and have a productive reason to get up every morning. We pray that those precious memories you have of him will stay vivid as you say your good-byes. Blessings. Bernie and Trudy

  17. Doug, I remember you telling of working with your dad at the frame shop, and though I am not certain you described his character back then, I thought of him just as he is now said to have been. I may have thought that because of your own special knack for creating ease and calm. Great name, Arlo Tennant. I wish for you that those times you spent with him remain clear, and that in these memories you see yourself as having known your dad in ways few of us ever get to know a parent. That you know he knew your love as you did his.
