October 18, 1987 – Johannesburg, South Africa
March 12, 2019 – Sydney, Australia
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother Matthew on March 12, 2019 at the age of 31 years.
Matthew was born in Johannesburg and in 1994 at the age of six moved with his parents and sister to Calgary. He attended Chinook Park Elementary School, Bishop Pinkam Junior School and graduated from Henry Wise Wood High School in 2006. At the age of twenty one he travelled to Australia and decided to stay and make a life for himself there. He had a wide circle of friends in his adopted country and he will be deeply missed there as he will be here. Matthew was an exceptionally bright young man with a wry sense of humour and an unusual way of looking at the world. He trod softly on the earth and we will miss the sound of his gentle footsteps.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Kate and Jonathan; his sister Emily; his grandfather Peter Meiring; his aunts, Karin Karnezos (Peter), Sally Thorne (Tim), Nicola Roberts (Jeremy), Jenny Anderson (Bruce); and his cousins, Nicholas, Thomas (Julia), Anna, Laura, James (Jacqueline), Peter (Joanna), Tom, Elizabeth, Katherine, Sophie, Ian and Amy. Matthew was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Ann Meiring and his paternal grandparents, David and Joan Williams; and by his uncle Christopher Williams.
A Celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at The Glencoe Club (636 29 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S 0P1) on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
