WILKINS, Roy John

September 17, 1937 – Westlock, Alberta
June 12, 2019 – Kelowna, British Columbia

Roy Wilkins, of Kelowna, BC, formerly of Calgary, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Roy was born in Westlock, Alberta where he spent his days until his High School Graduation. He then went on to become an Alberta Land Surveyor and he remained in practice until his retirement in 1998. He maintained his membership as a retired Land Surveyor until his death. As a surveyor, Roy surveyed from all four Alberta boundaries to most of the interior. He surveyed in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Federal lands as well.

Roy was predeceased in 2011 by his wife Gertrude (Trudy), who was his reason for living; by his parents Cecil and Velma Wilkins, brothers Robert Wilkins, Ted Wilkins, and by three sisters Gladys Westercamp, Lorraine Mall and Evelyn Paul.

He is survived by his daughter Sherry Wilkins, by his son Lawrence (Donna) and by his daughter Dr. Wendy Wilkins, by his step children Beverley (John) Marsden, Margaret (Dave) Slade and Ramsay (Charlotte) Lawrence. Roy is also survived by one brother Gordon Wilkins of Burnaby, BC and by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

For those wishing to pay their respects, a viewing will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will not be held.

Roy will be buried privately beside Trudy at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

    Sorry for your loss. Roy, Trudy, my deceased husband Jim Kettleson and I (Marion), were known as the fearsome foursome at the Dots and Dashers Square Dance Club. I missed having Roy around when he moved to B.C. as we had been close friends for about twenty years.

  5. Sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. I worked with Roy at SESL ( Stuart Engineering and Surveying Ltd. ) Roy was the “go to guy” with any questions on survey procedures and problems. He was always very helpful and was a mentor to many.
    My condolences to the family.
