WEST, Ross Wayne

July 31, 1956 – Pincher Creek, Alberta
January 8, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Ross West of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the age of 62 years.

Ross from an early age was attracted to all things mechanical. He pursued a career as an automotive mechanic and his bliss was riding his motorbike cross-country; to the point he once road his dirt bike from Cochrane to Texas and back for no other reason than a good sunburn.

Another dream of Ross’s was long haul trucking. He took a couple breaks in his mechanic career to drive for TransX out of Winnipeg. His pride swelled describing getting his “load” into the heart of New York or Chicago on time, having never been near the destination before.

Ross’s last ride will include a circuit through the Waiparous country out west which he loved and a check for his twin, Randy, who headed out many years earlier.

Ross is survived by his brother Duane West and his nephew Samuel West.

If friends so desired memorial donations can be made to Victory Foundation, www.victoryfoundation.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ross West, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E., Calgary, AB, T2A 3V9, Telephone: 403- 248-8585.

Condolence Messages

  1. So sad and surprised to here of Ross’s passing. We spent many hours together in our younger lives and I enjoyed his visits out to Cochrane to find out how he was doing and what he was up to. Ross was very friendly, very intelligent, and a wiz at fixing anything mechanical. I will surely miss our visits. Rest In Peace.

  4. I’ve known Ross since I was a young boy, he worked for my father for many years. I’ll fondly remember Ross as a friendly soft spoken man who was easy to talk to and befriend. He was extremely knowledgeable in all things mechanical and an absolute wiz on a motorcycle. It was with a heavy heart that I learned of his passing. Rest in peace Ross, it was truly my privilege knowing you.

So sorry and shocked to hear Ross has passed. He was one of my cousin’s best friends and an all around good guy. He always had time to stop what he was doing when working at Bow Ridge Motors and have a quick visit. I remember him to be very particular about every job he did. One time I stopped at the garage and Ross was helpng Craig perfect changing a motorcycle tire quickly in preparation for Craig racing in the Baja. I was fortunate to join the group on some of their many weekends at cross country races across Alberta and BC and had a lot of laughs and learned of some of their many adventures. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to catch up Ross. RIP

Ross is sadly missed. He was such a fun, talkative fellow. I remember being quite surprised that he enjoyed reading manuals of various watches and other intricate machinery-for fun! He was kind hearted and enjoyed a good laugh. He was truly a pleasure to know. We will miss you, our brother in Christ, till we meet again.
