August 7, 2016 – Morley, Alberta

It is with profound heartache that we announce the unexpected and untimely passing of Kori “Gus” Jonathan Wesley. Kori ascended to Heaven’s Glory on August 7, 2016.

Kori was a loving, caring, respectful, young man with a sense of humour that made those around him laugh. Kori attended school at Glenbow Elementary, Mitford Middle School and Bow Valley High School, but graduated from Morley Community School in 2012. Kori’s favorite hockey team was the Pittsburgh Penguins and his two favorite players were Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. He was an avid NHL Fan. He knew of team and player stats and knew that the Penguins were going to win the Stanley Cup. Kori enjoyed spending time with his culturally adopted brothers Gilmore Bearspaw-Healy, Dallas K. Poucette, Tanner Lefthand, Trent Poucette, Nicolas and Thomas Yorke Jr and his best friends and paternal cousins that were many. Although Kori did not speak his language, he understood the language and cultural traditions. He knew of cultural ceremonies, protocols, values & beliefs. At the young age of 18 months he was a traditional dancer until the age of 4. As a young boy he tried boys steer riding. Kori had an adventurous spirit and tried various sports. From his time at Bow Valley High School, he learned about carpentry and mechanics. The one thing he enjoyed the most was spending time with his sisters and laughing with them. Kori was natural musician and enjoyed different genres of music. His favorite pastime was playing online games with his friends/brothers.

Kori is survived by his father Murphy Powderface; sisters Tasina Pope and husband Matthew, Tamara Brass and husband Sheldon; nephews Josiah Brass and Wesley Pope; brother Michael Boy Wesley; grandmother Una Wesley; mother Lori Wesley; his culturally adopted grandparents Ernie Labelle and Winnie Bearspaw; culturally adopted parents Tom and Anne Yorke; as well as relatives from Morley, Big Horn, Eden Valley, Tsuu T’ina, Piikani and Lodge Grass Crow Agency Montana.

You will be greatly missed and remembered. Kori, as one of your high school teachers, I can honestly say it was a true pleasure knowing you. You were always so pleasant, funny, kind, and caring. I send my deepest condolences to your family, his beautiful spirit left too early.

Condolence from Ms. L.A.Wallace on August 15th, 2016 1:19 AM

Kori’s trademark smile always lit up the room — and his positive outlook was well-known. So proud was he at his Graduation, his broad smile never left his face throughout the entire ceremony. He was an inspiration to other students graduating at such a young age. Kori will not be forgotten — fond memories of his brief life will live on forever. My deepest & most heartfelt condolences to his loving family, his friends & classmates, and to everyone whose lives he touched with his laughter; his willingness to help others; and his eternal optimism. It was an honour to teach Kori & to witness his wonderful attributes. May fond memories of Kori provide strength & courage during this most difficult time. May he Rest In Paradise.
