WELYCHKA, David (Dave)

January 2, 1956 – Welland, Ontario
December 30, 2016 – Calgary, Alberta

With very heavy hearts, we unexpectedly said goodbye to father, brother, and dear friend David Welychka. David passed away on December 30th, 2016, just three days before his 61st birthday.

David was born on January 2nd, 1956 in Welland, Ontario and grew up with his 5 siblings: Leonard, Maria, Gerard, Edmund and Billy. He grew up in Ontario enjoying sports, and playing hockey and baseball. He played Select Baseball and was an outstanding Minor Hockey Select Goalie, even getting offered to tryout with the Buffalo Sabres.

He attended Notre Dame Catholic High school, and attended Niagara College for a year where he picked up his welding skills. He received many welding certificates and became a talented welder. He moved out west to Calgary where he became a loving father and raised his two children. He was always the proudest father of Vanessa and Michael. He had three nephews and a niece in Ontario, and was a new grandfather to a four month old baby girl.

Family and faith were very important to him and we know that he passed away in the loving arms of his Lord. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of David Welychka, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

I am so sorry about the loss of your father. Losing a parent is always heartbreaking, especially when it is unexpected. Share stories about him with Brooklyn so she can learn about how special he was as a father and grandfather. You and your family will continue to be in my prayers. Hugs to you!

  7. Hey Buddy it’s only been a couple months but I miss you deeply already, seems like thing just aren’t running right without you, can’t find anyone to fill your shoes, I guess I might as well resign myself to the fact that you won’t ever be replaced. Hold a spot for me bro, thinking of you often
