April 27, 1949 – Swift Current, Saskatchewan
April 16, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Leslie Gayle Watson announces her passing after a courageous battle with ALS, on Monday, April 16, 2018, at the age of 68 years. Leslie entered heavens gates under the compassionate care of the hospice staff at Carewest Sarcee in Calgary, AB surrounded by her immediate family.

Leslie was born on April 27, 1949 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to the late Margaret and Allan Brandhagen. Leslie lived a fulfilling life as a wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and dear friend to all. She loved unlimited long distance plans, trips to Palm Springs and any opportunities for family gatherings. Leslie’s career spanned 36 years for the Calgary Board of Education working at Dr. EP Scarlett Senior High, John Ware Junior High and most recently Centennial High School.

Leslie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Moe and their children, Bill, Kelly and Jeff (Eang). In addition, she will be sadly missed by her three grandchildren, Easton, Katie and Brody and is also survived by her two sisters and their families, sister Lynn, husband Wayne Meyers and children, Lorna, Shaun (Joe) and Erin and sister Donna, husband Brian Dickie and children Kristi (Jason) and Karen (Mike). Leslie’s nieces and nephews’ children, Hannah, Makenna, Cooper, Chloe and Logan were also very special to her and join us in grieving. Outside of family, Leslie had many cherished friendships we’d like to acknowledge from her childhood to work colleagues, neighbours and newer friends made down in Palm Springs. She touched so many far and wide that the amount of love she gave was never ending and she kept giving it till the end.

During this difficult journey, our family and extended family would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of Leslie’s doctors, nurses and caregivers. These amazing people from South Health Campus, the ALS Society & ALS Clinic, Homecare, AHS and especially those during Mum’s final days in the Hospice wing at the Carewest Sarcee location were instrumental in not only caring for Mom but helping our family cope and grieve through this horrific time. The Watson’s, Dickie’s and Meyer’s families would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Leslie was taken from us far too early due to this horrible disease and as such in lieu of flowers the family wishes that any contributions be in the form of a donation to the ALS Society of Alberta in her honour. Mum’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with and would want them to know that she ‘Loves us all to the Moon and Back’.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.”

In living memory of Leslie Watson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Dearest Morley, Bill, Kelly, Jeffrey, your families and all of Leslie’s loved ones. Memories of dancing at Teen Town, getting married the same year, having our babies together, travelling to Vegas & Disney; laughing, crying, gossiping as only neighbours and besties would do. Years and years of wonderful times. ALS took my Momma from me and now it has destroyed yet another beautiful family. Please hug as hard as you can today, Happy Heavenly Birthday Leslie, Maureen

“My most sought after angel”, God said as he welcomed her into heaven.
My condolences to the entire Watson family.
She was one of a kind. She brought the best out of everyone around her. She was the life of the party, always positive and full of laughter. She made me feel at home, like part of the family, knowing mine was so far away.
She raised my best friend Kelly to be a strong, independent woman.
It is with great sorrow I say goodbye to a wonderful woman and hope that when God calls on me we will meet again.
