September 11, 1958 – Treherne, Manitoba
March 25, 2016 – Okotoks, Alberta

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rick at Foothills Country Hospice Okotoks, AB on Friday, March 25th, 2016.

He leaves a legacy with his loving wife Shannon (Goodridge) of 33 years; his sons Brett (Jenn) and Kyle (Emily) and daughter Lyndsey; father Richard (Bud) and mother Lorna (Moysey); sisters Kim Warren (Nelson Madsen), Kerry Warren and Deb Thoms and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Rick was born on the 11th of September, 1958, in Treherne, MB. The Warren family moved east to Toronto, ON, in the summer of 1964. In his final years of high school, Rick returned to Manitoba to live with his Auntie Marg and Uncle Jack on their farm near Rathwell. His time on the farm led him to the University of Manitoba and the Faculty of Agriculture where he acquired not only his Diploma in Agriculture in 1981, but also developed many lifelong friendships. It was there that he met his wife, soulmate, and fellow Aggie, Shannon. Upon graduation Rick began his agricultural career with Elanco in North Battleford, SK, followed by a move to Regina in 1983 where Rick and Shannon began their life together. In 1988 they moved to Carman, MB, and started their family. In 1996, the family moved to Calgary as Rick continued his career at the Dow AgroSciences head office, ultimately working with Elanco/DowElanco/Dow AgroSciences for 35 years.

Rick will be remembered as a great sports enthusiast. He coached his sons in hockey and was an active member in community sports. Family was everything to Rick, his close loving relationship with his parents and three sisters was always a priority and he looked forward to their time spent together including the Papa Bud annual golf tournament. This was time for visiting and sharing family stories. He loved spending summers at the Goodridge family cottage on Lake of the Woods, the outdoors, fishing and enjoying a rum and coke during happy hour with friends and family on the dock.
Rick spent the last year battling esophageal cancer with great courage and dignity, remaining positive throughout his entire illness, never once expressing any grievances and all the while still supporting his entire family.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Winnipeg, located at Stradbrook and Nassau, at 2:00pm, Friday, April 1st, 2016 with Rev. Paul Lampman officiating. A Celebration of Life will take place at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 16th, 2016. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate doctors, nurses and staff at the Foothills Medical Centre and Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their care during the past year. Heartfelt thanks to the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks for going above and beyond expectation when it came to caring for Rick and his family during his last week. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, PO Box 274, Okotoks, Alberta, T1S 1A5 or the Alberta Cancer Foundation c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: 1 (866) 412-4222. www.albertacancer.ca/memorial.

In living memory of Rick Warren, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.
