WALKER, John George

December 17, 2016 – Calgary, AB

John Walker beloved husband of Lois Walker of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the age of 68 years.

Born in Newmarket, Ontario on January 13, 1948 to Harry and Dorothy (nee Keffer) Walker, John was terrific athlete throughout high school; excelling at football, hockey, and track. He received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Western Ontario.

John retired from a 25-year career at TransCanada Pipelines and later from CC Technologies, having built many cherished relationships across the oil and gas community.

In addition to his accomplished career, John found true joy as a father and grandfather. An avid golfer, a tireless fisherman, and a passionate contributor to the heavy horse community – John touched countless lives and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Lois Walker; daughters Amy (Jordan) Coldham and Ashley (Pier) Martin; grandson Alexander Coldham; sister Elizabeth Evans; and brother in-law Jim (Judy) Walker.

The family will receive friends at Willow Park Golf & Country Club (639 Willow Park Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in Calgary at Red Deer Lake United Church (South side of Hwy 22X, west of 37 St SW) on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 11:30AM, followed by a time of fellowship. A celebration of John’s life will also be held in his hometown of Newmarket, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation at www.heartandstroke.ca or the Alzheimer Society of Canada at www.alzheimer.ca.
