VENDRINSKY, Dusan

March 31, 1941 – Czechoslovakia
November 12, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Dusan passed away after a battle with a brain tumor on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the age of 77 years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Sandy; his son Paul and grandson Henry; and his daughter Marleen; as well as family and friends in Canada and in Slovakia. Prior to becoming ill, he had a very full life where he enjoyed vacations with his family, camping, swimming, skiing, and hiking. He was also well known in Slovakia for his accomplishments in Track and Field in his younger days.

Dusan worked in Czechoslovakia as an Engineer before coming to Canada in 1968. After learning English at the age of 27, he went on to complete an MSc in Chemical Engineering at the U of C and became a member of APEGGA. He thoroughly enjoyed working in the oil and gas fields throughout his career.

A Private Celebration of Life for Dusan, will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

  8. Palo and Eva Siska :

    Dear Sandy and family
The sad news came to Eva and I as a bolt from a clear sky.
Please receive our condolences and allow us to mourn in spirit with all of you using some thoughts of Andrej Sládkovič, one of my favourite Slovak poets that reminds me of never fading permanency of Dusan’s touch and friendship :

“…We are as the flames of God,
We are as flowers blooming in the cold
    We are like precious stones.

Short life have shooting stars however
We too shall not shine forever
Blossom of flowers blows a wind away
So our cheeks shall not always rosy stay
In the ground a precious stone hides.

But sill a shooting star left a trace of light
And fragrant lives those flowers lived
Diamond in the ground shall keep its price…”

    Yours in grief
    Paul and Eva

  11. Connie and Dave Baines :

    Paul and Henry,
The passing of your dad and grandpa is such sad news. Please accept our heartfelt condolences for your loss. We will have to give you our hugs the next time we see you in Calgary. Dusan was such a dedicated family man and you could tell how much he loved spending time with his family. We had many good chats when your parents came to your house for their weekly “dates” with Henry. You could tell their day was complete when they spent time with that little guy. There will be a gap in your lives – fill it with cherished memories of Dusan. Hold each other close.
With love and hugs and prayers,
Dave and Connie Baines and Bronson and Brandon Busch

  12. Dear Sandy & family,
It was with deep sadness that I first learned of Dusan’s grave illness and now of his passing. Please accept my sincere condolences. Dusan was a close friend and colleague in the MnMs. I enjoyed very much his humour, including calling me Herr Professor and giving me challenging math puzzles. I hope that with time the sadness will decrease and you will have many fond memories of your years together.

    Best wishes,

    Ed Silver

    Dear Sandy and family,
We are deeply saddened by Dusan’s passing and so very sorry for your loss. Dusan was an expert engineer, exactly what an engineer should strive to be. You could bet the farm on his advice and never lose.
