With sadness we announce the passing of Albin Velcic on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the age of 80 years old..
Albin immigrated to Canada in 1958 and after apprenticing in Empress, Alberta, he settled in Calgary. For many years he ran a successful auto service franchise with his brother. He then contributed twenty-two years of service with Calgary Transit. Albin was an avid fisherman, gardener and Montreal Canadiens fan, who enjoyed sharing good meals and good wine with friends and family whenever possible.
Albin is survived by his wife Filomena; seven children, Nancy (Joe) Binfet, Lorraine (Ajit) Silas, Ken (Karen) Velcic, Peter Martignetti, Liliana Stenhouse, Angela Recsky, and Dario Martignetti; eleven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all of Calgary; five brothers-in-law, Fiore (Luviginia) Contrada, of Montefalcione, Italy, Michael (Antonia) Contrada, Tony (Clorinda) Contrada, Mario (Adalgisa) Contrada, Frank Contrada, along with all their families, all of Calgary; four sisters-in-law, Gina Velcic of Halfmoon Bay, BC, Maria Velcic of Lovran, Croatia, Lucy DiManno of Calgary, and Giuseppina Martignetti of Montefalcione, Italy. He will be missed by all, including many more nieces and nephews and relatives in Canada and Europe.
Albin was predeceased by his first wife Jane (Ivanka); two brothers, Karlo of Halfmoon Bay, BC and Tony of Lovran, Croatia; and sister-in-law Joanna Contrada of Calgary.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his honor.
