VAUGEOIS, Clare Cecile

November 13, 1927 – January 17, 2019

Clare beloved wife of Henry Joseph Vaugeois of Calgary, AB, passed away on January 17, 2019 at the age of 91 years .

Clare was born in Provost, Alberta to Leo and Rose Lorenz. The middle of three, Clare spent her childhood at the family farm with her brothers Norbert and Alex. A talented artist from a young age, she came to be particularly admired for her landscape paintings of the Canadian countryside.

Clare and Henry first met at a Catholic Women’s League dance; it was the beginning of their sixty-eight year romance. After living in Edmonton and Drayton Valley, Clare and Henry eventually settled in Calgary where they raised their five children together. They had a love of travelling, which took them to New Zealand, Fiji, Arizona, Quebec, Alaska and Hawaii; although nothing beat their family summer vacations camping in the Shuswap with the Couch family. They spent much of their golden years “out at the lake” in the Windermere Valley with family and friends.

Clare is survived by the love of her life Henry; her children David (Lori), Denise (Brian), Lorne (Krista), and Carol (Roy). Clare was predeceased by her daughter Lynn in 1980. Above all, Clare was known as the most devoted and loving grandmother to her nine grandchildren, Jarett, Joel, Alanna, Trevor, Lauren, Nicholas, Sean, Jenna and Hayden.

Clare was an active member of St. James Parish in SW Calgary for over fifty years. She will always be remembered for how she lived: with gentleness, grace, love and unending gratitude for the little things in life.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful staff at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice for their care, compassion and dignity with which mom was shown during her final days.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 – 20th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. Graveside Service to follow at Queens Park Cemetery.    Condolences may be forwarded through

If friends do desire, memorial tributes may be made to Carewest Sarcee Hospice

In living memory of Clare Vaugeois, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.
