VANDERBURG, Johanna Everdina (Ann)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ann Vanderburg on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the age of 83 years at the Bethany Care Center. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 63 years, John, her children, Dianne, Helen (Terry) and John (Rhonda), her grandchildren Kasey Anne (Matt), Bryce (Lindsay), Kennedy, Kiah and Sage and her great grand daughter Kinsley Anne.

Ann was born in Den Haag, Holland and immigrated to Canada in 1952 with her husband to work on a farm near Pincher Creek. She moved to Calgary a few years later to raise her family. Her joy in life was taking care of her family, initially helping her sister, Martina (Tina) Visser with her six young children and later her own children and her parents. She was the youngest of five siblings and was predeceased by her parents Lena and Jan DeHoop, her bothers Dennis and John DeHoop and her sisters Hendrika VanderVeen and Martina Visser.

Her home was always open to visitors and a warm place for family and friends to gather. Ann loved to knit, sew, bake, play cards and travel with John in their motor home.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary.

  1. It is a bigg loss to miss tante Ankie. She was such a sweethart. I always enjoyed being with uncle John and auny Ankie while I lived in Calgary.
    She also was a great mother and grandmother and was always talking about them even later on Skype.

Your Grandchildren were always on the top of your list as we worked together and I hope they will now be on the top of your list now. Their strength with your children will be there for you.
