June 3, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Lindsay Van Veen on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the age of 23 years.
We are heartbroken and devastated to lose our Lindsay bear.
Lindsay was the toughest and most resilient little girl you could ever meet. She survived multiple health challenges throughout her whole life. She defied the odds and kept everyone guessing.
If you spent time with her, she made you a better person. She loved everyone, there were no strangers. She experienced happiness in the simplest things and lived in the present moment.
Lindsay loved Mickey Mouse, Swings, Casinos, Chucky Cheese, Movies and especially people. She will be most remembered for her smile, her light, her giggle, holding hands, and her assertive nature.
When Lindsay was three years old, she started the preschool GRIT program and thrived. She then went to Emily Follensbee School and it was a safe, nurturing experience.
Lindsay had many adventures and traveled to Disney three times and had multiple trips to Ontario and British Columbia. She participated in music, drumming, karaoke, swimming and numerous other activities. She especially loved her van rides.
Lindsay is survived by her parents, Naomi and Carl, and her numerous loving caregivers that devoted themselves to her.
Also survived by family in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Holland. She was always surrounded by loving, safe, caring people. Lindsay’s life was about inclusion, love and fun.
Lindsay was predeceased by her grandmother Riny Van Veen and her grandfather Ted Van Veen.
