VAN VEEN, Lindsay Catharina

September 2, 1995 – Calgary, Alberta
June 3, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sorrow that our family announces the passing of Lindsay Van Veen on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the age of 23 years.

We are heartbroken and devastated to lose our Lindsay bear.
Lindsay was the toughest and most resilient little girl you could ever meet. She survived multiple health challenges throughout her whole life. She defied the odds and kept everyone guessing.

If you spent time with her, she made you a better person. She loved everyone, there were no strangers. She experienced happiness in the simplest things and lived in the present moment.

Lindsay loved Mickey Mouse, Swings, Casinos, Chucky Cheese, Movies and especially people. She will be most remembered for her smile, her light, her giggle, holding hands, and her assertive nature.

When Lindsay was three years old, she started the preschool GRIT program and thrived. She then went to Emily Follensbee School and it was a safe, nurturing experience.

Lindsay had many adventures and traveled to Disney three times and had multiple trips to Ontario and British Columbia. She participated in music, drumming, karaoke, swimming and numerous other activities. She especially loved her van rides.

Lindsay is survived by her parents, Naomi and Carl, and her numerous loving caregivers that devoted themselves to her.
Also survived by family in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Holland. She was always surrounded by loving, safe, caring people. Lindsay’s life was about inclusion, love and fun.

Lindsay was predeceased by her grandmother Riny Van Veen and her grandfather Ted Van Veen.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Please wear Mickey Mouse attire. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to GRIT Calgary Society https://www.gritcalgarysociety.com/

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Charlie, Richard, Mylah, Annilou, Jasmine and Bhart. As well as the many other fabulous caregivers throughout Lindsay’s life. We could not have given Lindsay the quality of life she had without all of you. We are forever grateful.

In living memory of Lindsay Van Veen, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  3. We will miss you Lindsay. You connected us with your family during a stay you had at the hospital. We watched your cats for you, then became family. Many many happy memories at the Zoo, Calaway park, kids events, with us and Houston and a few with Andrew. Cake parties, Olive Garden, gardening, playing toys. We still have one of your boats you gave to Houston because he liked it so much. It is a permanent tub toy at our house. Lindsay you are an inspiration to many, a real fighter for life and fun and adventure. We look forward to the day where we can run and play with you in Heaven. Hugs and prayers up to you Naomi and Carl. My deepest sympathy for you all.
