VAN OYEN, Henry

September 30, 1955 – St. Thomas, Ontario
December 19, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Van Oyen announces his passing, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the age of 63, after a brief illness.

Henry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 40 years, Elaine and his children, Tanis (Dan), Jeff (Taryn) and Lisa (Dennis). Henry will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Jérémie and Jacklyn, his father, Gerry, his siblings, John, Adriana, Corey, Geraldine (Keith), Hans (Sandee), and Helene (Pete), his many brothers- and sisters-in-law and father-in-law Roy and by many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Henry was predeceased by his mother Jenny and sister Monica.

Henry lives in our dearest memories with a fishing rod in his hands and a smile under his beard. He enjoyed nature through his favourite pastimes of fishing, camping, boating, and most often, exploring the back roads and small communities of rural Alberta while geocaching.

Though Henry’s explorations now remain in the memories of those blessed enough to have shared them at his side, his endless love, generosity and easy-going nature live in us all to persevere in his stead. His ability to find humour in everything, even during his final days, a desire to help anyone in need and an unwavering strength for the benefit of those he loved, are but a few of his most endearing qualities.

Special thanks to the marvelous team in the ICU at FMC for the exceptional and compassionate care given to Henry during his illness.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10 River Heights Drive in Cochrane, Alberta. Reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Henry Van Oyen, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE, AB, T4C 2E2, Telephone: 403-932-4740.
