August 10, 1931 – May 21, 2012

It is with great sadness and a sense of loss, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Amelia, on Monday, May 21, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.

Amelia was born and raised in Sessano Campobasso, Italy. In 1957, she immigrated to Canada and resided in Gleichen, AB, working for the Salvation Army Home. In 1959, she married the love of her life Carmine and later worked for the federal government. In 1972, she followed her husband and transferred to the Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary. She retired in 1988.

Amelia was an avid gardener and a hard worker. She loved to cook for family gatherings. The greatest joy of her life was spending time with her grandchildren. Throughout the years they had many happy holiday trips across Canada and the U.S.A.

Amelia is survived by her husband of fifty-two years Carmine; her son Thomas (Wendy); and granddaughters, Melissa and Amanda. She is also survived by her brother Domenico (Elenore) Petrollini of Edmonton, Giovanni (Maria) Petrollini; sister-in-law Ida of Calgary; and many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy. Amelia was predeceased by her mother Antonia and father Michele; brother Nicola; and sister Lucia. She will be forever loved and missed dearly by her family and the many who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 – 24th Avenue N.W.) on, May 25, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through The family would like to express their profound thank you to all those involved in Amelia’s care at the Foothills Medical Centre – from emergency to Units 82, 42, 46, and 47, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Day Surgery (Sara), Dr. McLaud, Dr Bylis, Dr. Marietta Iagucci from Rome, Dr. Dowden, Dr. Elzinca, Dr. Murray, Dr. Galoway; Dr. Mike and his team of doctors. Another special thank you to all the staff at ultrasound – Dr. Wiseman, Dr. Lal (Sonny) and many other doctors who made Amelia more comfortable for the last number of months.
