UNDSETH, Dennis Bobby

Dennis Bobby Undseth passed away on September 6, 2018 at Sarcee Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 65.

His stories will be passed on by his children; his daughter Frankie (Ben) and son Ryder of Calgary; his son Seth of Medicine Hat, and his son Cody of Edmonton; his mother, Bertha Undseth of Pennant; his sister Barbara (Bruce) Forrest of Ucluelet. Bob was predeceased by his father, Irwin “Buster” Undseth.

Bob was a man of many trades and skills. He had pleasant memories of being raised and working on the family farm. He told stories of selling houses and records; of building roads, pizzas, and coffees. Stories of labouring in the Yukon and on a dairy farm; of driving at Bob Bondurant School of Racing and later as a driver instructor with the CAA. He later moved on to School Safety Patrol and finally retired as the general manager of the AMA in Medicine Hat at age 58. He was a gentle man with a love for his dog, his motorcycle, and most importantly his children. He enjoyed his vehicles, but his transportation of choice would always be a horse. He mastered the art of the road trip and fully embraced the freedom of aimless wandering. It was rare for Bob to leave a new location without having made at least a couple new acquaintances. He taught his children that life was about experiences, so he offered them the beautiful, inspiring, and occasionally embarrassing experiences of a lifetime that he would go on to share with whomever would lend an ear.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church and Cemetery outside of Pennant, SK followed by coffee with the family at Pennant’s Senior’s Hall where we will be celebrating Bob’s life and sharing stories in his memory.

We’re heartbroken to hear of your Dad’s passing. He was one in a million and would do anything for anyone. I can just picture the big hug Uncle Moe gave him when they met in heaven. Take care of each other, that’s what your Dad would want most. He was incredibly proud of each one of you.
    Love,

We are sending condolences to Bob’s family, Mother and His children. Bob was very much liked by most people and also talked to anyone. We got to know him through Ama as we are a ama contractor in Medicine Hat. We had many good breakfast meals with Bob when he was Manager in Medicine. We enjoyed our visits very much. Rest in peace and happy travels . Willie & Linda Langille , Willie’s 24Hr. Towing Ltd

  14. I am shocked and saddened to hear of Bob’s passing!!! He was always “Mr. AMA” in Medicine Hat !! I knew Bob for his entire tenure at AMA, and have so many fond memories of his hard work and absolute desire to always do the right thing!! I especially admired his “cowboy culture”, which played a HUGE part in his endearing qualities as a person!! I will never forget one particular experience we shared when our AMA management team was at Rafter 6 Guest Ranch west of Calgary. As we were all mounted up and preparing for a group trail ride, Bob trotted his horse up beside mine, said “Howdy pardner”, and promptly fell of his horse and into the muck. The belly cinch on his horse had suddenly came lose and he hit the ground, as the saddle slipped sideways and dumped him. Because he was next to me when it happened, I was personally suspected of loosening the cinch as a joke, but I can honestly say it was an outfitter’s error, and I profess my innocence to this date!! All of us who were gathered at the time, had a great chuckle over this incident, but in true Bob Undseth fashion, he stood up, dusted himself off, re-cinched the saddle , mounted his horse, and away we went almost like it never happened. This was so typical of how Bob handled life………”pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and carry on”!! “HAPPY TRAILS pardner!! Gonna miss ya!!!!!

  17. Like many of my AMA colleagues, I am saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. It is too soon. Bob had a remarkable ability to make you feel at ease, and I always felt he looked after me like a “Dad” when I visited Medicine Hat. We had a connection in that we worked for the same company that built roads in Alberta, and Bob’s tales of his exploits always entertained me. Likewise, he always had an update on his kids who where his pride and joy. When I think of your father, son, brother, it brings a smile to my face. I only hope I can learn from Bob to make people feel so good. He left a positive impact on us all.

    Fondly,
    Nina Redding

  18. Frank Stroeher :

    Dear Ryder and Seth,
it is with great sadness to experience the loss of a unique worrier. Like many others on this page I had the privilege of working with Bob at AMA but our friendship grew more significantly after parting ways there. Your dad was a very tolerant, open minded, understanding and loving man. He was extremely proud of his children and shared as much in their lives as possible. Fondly we remember the good times of your visit with us in Nova Scotia. Just a few days before his passing we did spend some time on the phone with him. Bob assured us we would have so much time together later on and as we all know everything is possible in the spirit world.
Rest in peace good friend. Gail and Frank Stroeher. Digby, Nova Scotia
