May 2, 1938 – Lethbridge, Alberta
May 10, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
James Ronald (Jim) Turner passed away surrounded by family on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the age of 81 after an extended illness.
Jim was born in Lethbridge, AB, and received his Education degree from University of Calgary. He taught in Grassy Lake, Enchant, and Hussar, before settling into a long career with Rocky View School Division. He met Nancy in 1963 and knew immediately that she was the love of his life. His love for her shone brightly even in his final hours. He is a Past Worshipful Master Hussar Chapter of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed the lifelong brotherhood of those good men. He enjoyed the mountains, and spending time at his trailer at Canmore, and then at Fairmont. Jim was one of the world’s great characters who made an impression with his quick wit, humour, and unique turns of phrase. He had many roles in his life: Son, brother, teacher, husband, father, administrator, good friend, Mason, and surrogate “Dad” to many. Underneath a gruff exterior was a soft heart with endless compassion for animals and the people he held closest.
He is survived by his dear wife, Nan; his “3 Cs”, daughters Cathy, Cynthia (Wade), and Candice (John); and “adopted” son, Scott Young (Marilyn). He was most proud of his grandchildren, Charlotte (Dylan), Jacki, Mat (Tanis), Wes, Nic, Courtney, Marcus, Reese, and Carolyn.
If friends chose to raise a pint, glass of scotch, or drop of gin, and toast, “To Jim” in his memory, he would like that very much.
