TOWNLEY, Frances June (nee Arbour)

January 25, 1923 – Calgary, Alberta
May 13, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

June Townley of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at the age of 96 years, leaving behind a life well lived and well loved.

June will be remembered as strong, loyal, intellectual, forthright and generous. Born in Calgary, June travelled with her parents Jack and Peg Arbour during his NHL playing days along with her two best friends, sisters Donna and Helen. Once settled back in Calgary, the Arbour sisters could be found skating at the Glencoe, spending many cherished hours and making lasting friendships. June married John Townley III in 1955 and enjoyed many years together raising their son John, travelling, golfing, skiing, and entertaining family and friends. Her varied interests included playing bridge, being a most avid reader, an accomplished cook, a volunteer and an active member in her parish and community. She was also fond of the arts. She cherished her close and lasting friends over the years, many of whom stood alongside her during difficult times. June’s indomitable spirit and unwavering faith saw her through the loss of her husband in 1999, and her only child John Townley IV in 2012. June sought comfort from family and her faith knowing her son John would live on through the memories shared by his wife Cyndra and their three children, Macmillan, Stuart and Madeleine. Her love as mother and grandmother extended to not only her grandchildren, but to her many nieces and nephews who essentially grew up with their “Auntie June”. She was steadfast in her love for them and their families ensuring a strong bond which lasted a lifetime.

In addition to Cyndra, Mac, Stuart and Madeleine, June will be fondly remembered by her husband John’s children, Stephen and Deb Townley, Linda and Phil Jury and all of their children, as well as her Hickey and Robertson nieces and nephews. June was also predeceased by her beloved sisters, Donna Hickey and Helen Robertson; her brothers-in-law, Frank Hickey and Stuart Robertson; niece Donna Hickey and her nephew Fletcher Kimmel.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340 – 4th Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow and Family Graveside Service at St. Mary’s.
