TOWILL, Douglas “Blair”

January 31, 1929 – Moosomin, Saskatchewan
March 17, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Blair Towill of Calgary passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at the age of 90 years.

Blair was a Park Warden in Banff, School Teacher in Indian Head, Saskatchewan and then his final career was a Petroleum Landman, starting out with British American Oil in Regina and then being transferred to Calgary in 1967. He retired with Gulf Canada in 1985 (a successor company to BA). Blair was a long-time member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and had many good long-time friends from within the association.

Blair married the love of his life Myrna and together they shared a wonderful life filled with many friends and travels together. Blair had a passion for fly fishing which he imparted to his son-in-law Joe and grandson Michael. Though he had not been able to fish himself for a while, he enjoyed the reports back of fishing adventures in Canmore from Michael. Another area of interest was antique automobiles and he and son Mark worked in their garage together to restore a 1928 Chrysler Rumble Seat Coupe for seven years. When Blair retired, he and Myrna wanted to buy a place in Canmore for their family to enjoy. One morning Myrna read an ad for a cabin that backed onto a creek in Canmore and that became the place. Blair spent many hours with friends fixing the place up. He was a talented woodworker, building all the cabinetry in the cabin and also did many woodworking projects for his home and his children.

Blair is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Linda and Joe Bernier of Cochrane; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Heike Towill of Calgary; grandchildren, Michael Bernier, Lara Towill, and Rachel Towill; sister-in-law Donna Gilbert of Regina; cousin Lou Hamilton; his beloved cat Fitz; as well as numerous friends that Blair and Myrna were blessed with throughout the years. Blair was predeceased by his wife Myrna; and his sisters, Ruth Bernard and Betty Reinke.

A Celebration of Blair’s Life will be held at a later date. 4. To Mr Towill’s family
We’re sorry to hear of his passing. A few weeks ago I was fortunate to visit him when he called to give me his old aviation magazines. I didn’t think that would be the last time we would talk so I am glad we managed to connect.
