December 23, 1923 – Smoky Lake, AB
November 3, 2017 – Calgary, AB

Anne Tough of Calgary, AB, passed away at the Beverly Centre in Calgary on Friday on November 3, 2017 at the age of 93 years.

Anne was born and grew up on the family farm near the small community of Smoky Lake, AB, the eldest of seven children. Life was hard in the early years and when she was a young adult, Anne left Alberta for Vancouver where she resumed her education, completing high school, attending the University of British Columbia and eventually graduating as a Registered Nurse from St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing. While she was nursing in Trail BC, she met Norman Tough and married him there in December 1953. Together they raised a family of three children while Norman was transferred from province to province. It was an enduring marriage and they shared a deep connection, especially at the end of Dad’s life. Anne was a woman ahead of her times, very independent, quite strong, always working, always making something. Before retirement age she changed career directions and became a Realtor, a dynamic choice for her, but she enjoyed it tremendously.

Anne is survived by her children; daughters Betty (David Eskesen), Cathy (Rodney Lord), and a son Bob Tough, together with her five grandchildren Christopher (Shawna), Tyler, Carmen, Kenneth, Derek, and a great-grandson Darion. She is also survived by her sister Stella Wozny, brothers Alec and John Martyshuk and their families.

She was predeceased by her husband Norman Tough on March 3, 2017 and by her parents Rose and John T. Cebuliak, her sister Olga, brothers George Cebuliak of Drayton Valley, AB and Mike Martyshuk of Winnipeg, MB.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Agecare Beverly Glenmore, Pumphill Unit, for looking after Mom for so many years through the progression of her Alzheimer’s. And most especially, we thank Mayen Lowe for her loving care of Mom. Mayen became like a daughter to Anne and Mom loved her.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through
