June 14, 1934 – Regina, Saskatchewan
September 5, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of Eugene (Gene) Tiefenbach, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Gene’s passing was Thursday, September 5th at the age of 85 years.
Gene was born in Regina, SK and raised by his parents, Paul and Maria, on a farm near Balgonie, SK. It was there, surrounded by his many siblings, the open prairies, lakes and parks, he established early on his lifelong love of the land and the outdoors, an appreciation of hard work, and a sense of duty within his community. His loyalty and dedication to this country inspired a twenty-five year career serving with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Gene met his beloved wife Annie one fateful night in 1956, at the Trianon Dance Hall in Regina, SK. They were married for fifty-seven years, and raised their two young sons, Timothy and Michael in Victoria, BC, before eventually settling in Calgary, AB.
Gene (aka Trigger) loved to hunt, fish, cook and garden, as well as host many family dinners. Everyone who entered the Tiefenbach home was considered family, and invited to share in the meal. Gene loved watching sports with his family and friends, while enjoying his evening “schluga” in his favourite chair.
Gene is survived by his sons, Timothy (Jen) and Michael (Brandi); his granddaughters, Katurah (James), Madison, Alexia and Jennifer (Matt); his grandsons, Trevor (Ashely), Tristen, Michael (Paige), Kyle and Alex (Marina); and his great-grandchildren, Raiden, Thea and Bentley. Gene will be forever remembered by his godson Jock and his best friend and army buddy Arnie Battrum, as well as extended family and dear friends. Gene was predeceased by his wife Annie, his parents, Paul and Maria; brothers, George, Jacob, Ralph, Eddy, and Elmer; sisters, Tillie, Olga, Phyllis, Frieda and Elsie; and grandson Brandon.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – Centennial Calgary Branch 285 (9202 Horton Road SW) on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary, www.theveteransfoodbankofcalgary.ca.
