TENHAM, Hendrik Nico (Nick)

May 4, 1949 – May 31, 2018

Hendrik Nico (Nick) Tenham, beloved husband of Olive Tenham of Calgary, passed away at the age of 69 years, on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

Lover of all things “neat” and intriguing, he was a reader, designer, tinkerer, humanist, and philosopher. Dad lived a full life surrounded with a multitude of life-long friends around him. He sought out truth and understanding in so many topics, in so many corners of our human experience… whether this be the ancient writings of Sumerians or how to fix his ancient Toyota 4Runners, he was an amazing husband, father, friend and loved human being like non-other.

He is survived by his loving wife, Olive; daughter Kim Tenham; son and daughter-in-law Andy Tenham and Josephine Ho; sisters and brothers-in-law Fran and Dan Gowe, and Helen and Herb Coburn; brother Ernie Tenham; numerous friends and family around the world; and grandfur babies Selleck and Moose, meow. He was predeceased by his brother Robbie “Carver” Tenham

Funeral Services will be held at West Springs Free Methodist Church (742 – 85 St S.W., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Please bring your photos, poems and stories to be included in a memory book for the family. Condolences may be forwarded through: www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Nick, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

I worked with Nick years ago at Kenonic/Emerson. He was a special man who made a point of getting to know everyone at the office. Friday mornings, he would walk around the office with bags of candy, bringing smiles to people and making it a special place to work. While I haven’t seen Nick in years, I’m very sad to hear of his passing. I know that his extraordinary personality was a source of light for his family and all that knew him, and I know he will be very sadly missed.
My heartfelt condolences, Rebecca (Undseth) Rollison

I first met Nick on a jobsite many years ago. I joined him at BSEI where he became a mentor and a friend. I always thought of Nick as a great teacher, but as time went on, and especially now, I think of him as a student. A student of philosophy, science, religion, math, ethics. He always wanted to learn and to help others learn. A true loss, I’ll miss him greatly. My thoughts are with the Tenham family.

  33. Garry & Jean Sharp :

I met Nick at Kenonic in my 1st few years of learning a new career in AutoCAD. I was always doing electrical type drawings and Nick and I had a lot of decisions as to how they should look like. I am going miss having someone that know what I was asking and usually had answer or a manual were he said I could find the answer to my question. Nick and I did not always agree but I am going to miss those discussions about differ points if views. Nick also told me how to set up a home budget that likely save my wife and I a lot of arguments. I will always be thankful for this.
He is truly going to be missed. My deepest sympathies and sincere condolences.
