SWANSON, Barbara Elizabeth

Barbara Swanson of Calgary, AB, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the age of 75 years.

Barb graduated in Red Deer in 1960 and took night classes at the Red Deer College in the early 1980’s. Her first full time job was at Hudson Bay Company in the mid sixties. In the early seventies she began work Fletchers Fine Foods where her career as an Office Manager lasted for over forty years. Barb loved relaxing with a good book or with a game of solitaire on her computer. She was an avid camper who loved the mountains and riding dirt bikes on mountain cut lines. Barb loved to travel to places such as England, Ireland, Alaska, Florida and Hawaii. She found joy looking after her dogs, driving her car and enjoyed shopping on a daily basis. She loved talking with and meeting new people.

Barb was a caring loving mother, sister and friend who was always willing to help. She did a lot of volunteering at her church and her grandson’s school where she taught children to read.

Barbara is survived her daughter Lori Swanson; son David Swanson; her sister Corinne (Rich) Burland; her brothers Rick (Joyce) Mooney and Mike (Anne) Mooney; daughter-in-law Linda Swanson; grandson Solomon Swanson; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Barbara was predeceased by her mother Betty Mooney; her father Pat Mooney; and her son Stephen Swanson.

Funeral Services will be held at Rockyview Alliance Church (6927 Rundlehorn Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Barb hired me back on November 19, 1990 at Fletchers Fine Foods and I am still working here today:) We had a great office team and Barb was a huge part of that – fun times were had. I remember the bantering back and forth between Barb and Frank Jones and Frank and Neil’s nick name for her ” Barbie Dolls “.
