STUART, Alfred (Al) John

February 23, 1924 – Cabri, Saskatchewan
July 31, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Alfred Stuart of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

Al was born on the family farm near Cabri, SK on February 23, 1924. He remained in the Cabri area until joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in September 1943, serving in multiple locations before moving to Saskatoon, SK in 1946. He attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating in 1951 with a BSc in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation he moved to Edmonton, AB to begin what proved to be a long career with Imperial Oil Limited. It was while in Edmonton that he met and married the love of his life, Leone. Al and Leone moved to Calgary, AB in 1955 where Al continued to work in Exploration Research (Geophysical), before retiring from Esso Resources Canada in December 1982. Al was a member of the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Association of Professional Engineers of Alberta, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He also volunteered with the Calgary Speed Skating Club, serving as President.

Al will be most remembered for being a dedicated hard-working man, who consistently put the needs of his family above his own.

Al is survived by his three sons and three daughters-in-law, Greg and Lorene of Maple Ridge, BC, Glenn and Deborah of Saskatoon, SK, and Gord and Kathy of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Taylor of Los Angeles, California, Brecken of Calgary, AB, Elora of Saskatoon, SK, and Callum of Saskatoon, SK; as well as nieces, nephews, and cherished brothers and sisters-in-law. Al was predeceased by his beloved wife Leone and brothers Doug (Cassie), Rod (Carrie), Don, and Gerald (Gert) Stuart.
