STICKSL, Lucy

August 27, 1936 – Villalago, L’Aquila, Italy
June 14, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Lucy Sticksl of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 14, 2019 at the age of 82 years.

Lucy was born in Villalago, Italy on August 27, 1936 and immigrated to Canada with her family on September 24, 1949.  On June 11, 1955 Lucy married the love of her life, George Sticksl and they began their sixty-four years of marriage. Lucy stayed home to raise her three young children and was a wonderful mother.  As her children grew older Lucy worked part time at Sears Canada and enjoyed the new friendships she made over her 25-year career. Lucy also pursued a passion for music and sang with the Calgary Italian Choir, Austrian Canadian Choir and the choir at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Lucy was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and caring friend to many. She loved to gather family for Sunday dinners, special occasions and summer visits at the Sylvan Lake cottage.  Lucy especially enjoyed her grandchildren and they loved her deeply.

Lucy has left a lasting imprint in our hearts with her feisty spirit, caring nature, beautiful singing and her smile for everyone.

Lucy is survived by her loving husband, George, and her children, Peter Sticksl (Karen), Helen Beingessner (Kevin), Marian Gjertsen; grandchildren, Matthew Sticksl (Celia), Colin Sticksl (Courtney), Brittany Sunderani (Zahid), Dan Beingessner, Claire Gjertsen and Kaila Gjertsen, and great grandchild, Nathan Sticksl.  She is also survived by two sisters, Armanda Virdis (Leo) and Josie Del Degan (Ennio); and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lucy was predeceased by her parents, Ascanio and Paolina Iafolla; sister Connie Jamart, brothers, Tony and John; her brother-in-law Roman Jamart; and her grandchild, Hannah Gjertsen.

Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street & Northmount Drive N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 10:30AM.
