STERRENBERG, Willem (Bill)

March 28, 1931 – Piershil, Netherlands
June 28, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Bill Sterrenberg passed away peacefully at the age of 87, June 28, 2018 while at Walden Heights care facility where he spent the last year battling Alzheimer’s.

Bill arrived to Halifax, Canada in 1953 on his twenty second birthday with only $50.00 in his pocket and with spirited determination, he began his new adventure. After a couple years of working between Alberta and British Columbia, he decided to settle here in Alberta where he raised his family. Bill became a master craftsman in the construction business, a career he enjoyed for over forty years. Bill was a member of the UGA golf club where he looked forward to his Monday night golf games at the Inglewood Golf Course. He was an avid gardener, and was always eager to lend a hand to anyone needing anything built or fixed. Bill was a long- standing member of the Bonavista Evangelical Missionary Church.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Elizabeth Sterrenberg (nee Tanis); his daughter Corinne; and daughter-in-law Yvonne Sterrenberg. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Bill from the USA and Cobi and Gijs; his brother and sister-in-law Jan and Addie; brothers-in-law, Kommer and Wim from the Netherlands; as well as numerous nieces and nephews from both USA and Netherlands. He will also be missed by his close friends. Bill was predeceased by his parents; his loving sons, Ken (1999) and John (2004); his brothers, Bastiaan from the Netherlands and Peter from the USA; and his two sisters, Bep and Marie from the Netherlands.

Memorial services will be held at Bonavista Evangelical Missionary Church (1509 Lake Ontario Drive S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Murray Swalm officiating. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at the Walden Heights care facility that cared for him with such compassion over the past year.
