STERNE, Harry (Ron) Ronald

May 29, 1946 – Toronto, Ontario
December 26, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Ron unexpectedly left us at Foothills Medical Centre the evening of Wednesday, December 26, 2018 after a ten year battle with Prostate Cancer that he appeared to be winning.

Ron’s presence and personality commanded energy in any room, which certainly could not be ignored. Being an English major, he was always at ease expressing himself with intelligence, wit and charm. Ron was passionate in all his interests, his family, as CEO of Labrador Technologies, the camaraderie of his great friends and golf, whether it was with his Snips group at Redwood Meadows or the TDI family.

Muskoka and in particular Beaumaris was very dear to his heart as well as his beloved Tree House.

Ron was an extraordinary brother to John (Carole Lynn), Sandy (Pat Smerek) and Bob (Sandy); a loving uncle to Sarah (Iain), Stephanie, Johnny (Becky), J. D., Tye, Chris (Hannah), Maddie and Alex and caring great uncle to Keely, Camden, Bella, Tenleigh and Georgia.

He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Barbara Sterne.

Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Foothills Medical Centre for the special care they gave Ron in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation may be made to your favourite charity in his name.

In living memory of Ron Sterne, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  5. Ron was my very first client when I went on my own back in 1984. I literally worked for him full time. These were the Sterne Software days. After moving from Calgary in 1986, we lost touch with one another, which has always been one of my regrets. Sometimes you don’t learn that lesson in life until you are much, much older.
I will always remember Ron as one of the smartest businessmen I have ever known, and with the ability to persevere through any crisis. He taught me a lot.
    Sincerely,
    Durell Wiley

  10. Ron was larger than life and he will be missed. I have so many fond memories of Ron during my time at SSX including an epic interview, chairs piled against my desk if I was a few minutes late getting to the office, multiple nicknames, my daughter running across his newly seeded lawn and many more. He was a great person and will always be. My condolences to his family and friends and very much saddened by his passing.

  11. I am deeply saddened to hear of Ron’s passing: my sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. I was one of Labrador’s early adopters in the energy industry and working with him, one could see the passion he brought to doing the very best. His intellect, engaging banter on a multitude of topics, and drive were an inspiration to employees, customers, and competitors alike. He will be missed.

  12. My condolences to Sandy, Bob and the rest of Ron’s family.

I was so sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He was an amazing person. I truly admired his passion for work, family and friends. I enjoyed the 2 years I worked for Ron and for the opportunity I had to join Ron and fellow golfers at Pinehurst.

I was out of town on the 25th and therefore was not able to pay my respects to the family. I wish all the best to the family and for all those that had the privilege of knowing Ron. He will be solely missed.

  13. I was Ron’s Hairdresser. I have thought of him often. I thought it was strange that I had not seen him. last time he had texted me he was in hospital. I this morning decided to look up in Obituary to see if he had left us on this earth. I always enjoyed Ron’s conversations, his positive outlook on life. He was always caring of my life and we always had great conversation. He filled a room with a big smile. I would like to pass on my sincerest condolences to all of you in his family. I admired his will to learn new ways of business in his years. Heaven gained a big personality angel.
