STEELE, Donald John

October 7, 1957 – Kitchener, Ontario
December 13, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with immense sadness we announce the passing of Donald (Donnie) John Steele, beloved Father of Jordan and Stepfather of Laurena, Kali and Jonathan. He was also dearly loved as Grampa “D” by Ezekiel, Phoenix, Griffin, Sparrow and Jasper.

Donnie was born on October 7, 1957 in Kitchener, Ontario to Ruth and Alexander Steele of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of 61.

He was a free-spirited man who loved to travel especially when it involved driving. Donnie had a kind, gentle soul; his patience and generosity to those he loved was unwavering. He was always willing to pitch in and help; no job was too small or menial to him. He particularly enjoyed outdoor work and took great satisfaction in a well-maintained landscape. Donnie was never one to seek the spotlight, he was a humble man who found joy in the simple things of life such as watching a good movie, eating a great steak sandwich, enjoying a classic set of wheels and listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn. Donnie always travelled light.

Donnie had a wonderful sense of humour and an amazing faith in God regardless of circumstances. He will be profoundly missed by his family including niece and nephew Melissa and Michael Steele, long time, close friends, Carmen Simpson and Karla Eagles as well as an abundance of dear friends.

The pain of grief
Is as much a part of living
As the ecstasy of love,
Because it is the cost of commitment
And the price we pay for closeness

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  10. I am so sorry to hear of Donny’s passing. I met Donny when we took a hairdressing course in our early 20s. He came roaring up on his motorcycle to take me for a ride at my home and later I met his parents and brother Michael who were all so good to me. I remember taking him skiing in Sunshine for his first time skiing and how hard we laughed when he fell off the chairlift into a net and had to be rescued. He was a great sport and continued for the day and did very well after that. He took me on a motorcycle ride to my family reunion outside of Calgary and when I got cold and didn’t have a scarf, he wrapped a roll of toilet paper around my neck. As we rode my neck became chilly and I looked behind and the whole roll had unwound and was blowing behind in the wind and part still stuck to my neck. Another good laugh for us. Although many years have passed I have never forgotten him or our times together. My condolences to Donny’s family on his passing. Heaven has gained a kind and gentle soul.
