SOLSKI, Douglas Allan

April 29, 1950 – Toronto, ON
December 13, 2016 – Calgary, AB

Doug Solski, sixty-six years old was an absolutely amazing father to Kim (Tim) and Sean (Rachel), inspiring grandfather to Evangeline, Ethan, Anthony, Jessica, and Alyssa. He was a stupendous husband of forty-six exhilarating years to Kathy and their love story was like no other. He fought a consistent, uphill, courageous battle after receiving a double lung transplant on July 28, 2016 because this was his only chance of living as he had IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) and his days were numbered. Many complications were handed his way.

The medical team was in awe as he fought to stay with Kathy and his family with each new giant hurdle that would continuously handed his way.

Oh my god…. what not to love about this man. When asked how is your day going, he would say “wonderful.”

He loved and lived each day as if he was unaware of his disease or problems. He would not let them interfere with his plan to live and love a wonderful day. His famous saying with the grandchildren was “It’s too nice to be inside.” No matter what the weather was, he was going out with his grandchildren. His time here with us was cut way too short. He was not done with his wonderful days and being outside. Doug’s trivia knowledge was amazing…. Doug is a hero; he is so missed by Kathy, family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Douglas Solski, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  16. I am very saddened to hear of Doug’s passing. The things I remember the most about Doug were his incredible drive to enjoy everything life had to offer. There wasn’t much that got him down. He was ready to meet each day with a smile on his face and great enthusiasm to get things done. He was a no nonsense man with a big heart, a zest for life, who loved his sweetheart Kathy and the family they created and his friends. I’m proud you did it your way and I know you are finally free from pain. We who are left behind, now have to go on without you and that won’t be an easy journey. We do have our memories and we thank you for them. Rest in peace my friend.

  17. Your heart is broken and may never heal but the love you and Doug had together will live on forever. He was your right hand, your stability, he adored and loved you through all the ups and downs life put in your path. He loved to travel the world with you and you shared moments in your life that any other couple would be envious of as they will never experience what you and Doug had together. I loved our holidays together, you guys never fought, and playing all the games as Doug was the smartest man I knew. He will be in our hearts for eternity.
We love you forever and ever.

Kathy we regret that we can’t be with you and your family today to celebrate Dougs life. Doug was an important person in our life and we will miss him. We intend to join the celebration from here with a McDonalds coffee and an “Elvis Cookie (don’t be crueller)” down by the river because, as Doug would say “its too nice to be inside”.
