SLEMKO, William (Bill)

November 6, 1928 – Lethbridge, Alberta
August 14, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

William (Bill) Slemko passed away on August 14, 2018 at the age of 89 following a brief illness. Bill’s beloved wife of fifty-four years, Jean, his loving children and grandchildren were at his side.

Bill was born in Lethbridge on November 6, 1928 to Sam and Pearl Slemko and grew up on the family farm just north of Coaldale as the youngest of six. He graduated from the University of Alberta in 1951 with a degree in Engineering Geology. He enjoyed a successful career in the Alberta, US and South American oil and gas industries, primarily with Western Decalta and later with Springer Development Corporation.

Bill’s family was the most important thing in his life. He married Jean (nee King) in 1964. They shared their love of golf, skiing, the outdoors, travel, and the arts with their three children.

With his trademark smile, warm disposition and keen mind, you could always be assured a hot meal, cold drink, and good conversation around the Slemko table.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Jean; children Marg Perlette (Mike), Kathy Tulloch (Guy Drouin), and Gord Slemko (Mary Mackie); grandchildren, Gillian and Chris Perlette, Matson Tulloch, Ciara Slemko; brother Pete (Diana); sister-in-law Francis; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents Sam and Pearl, brothers John and Steve, and sisters Ann (Nastiuk) and Mary.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at the Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club (12501 – 14th Street S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
