SLABOSZ, Frank

April 12, 1947 – England
April 29, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Slabosz, announce his sudden passing on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the age of 71 years with his family by his side.

Frank will forever be remembered by his loving wife and best friend, Patricia Slabosz, children, Deanna (Shawn) Baldwin, Curtis (Becky Coutu) Slabosz and daughter in-law, Andrea LaPietra. Frank will never be forgotten by his amazing grandchildren, Josh, Emma, Tate and soon to be fourth grandchild, Baby (Peanut) Slabosz. Frank will be remembered by his dear sister, Theresa. Frank was predeceased by his Mother Stefania, Father Walter and man’s best friend, Cujo, the chocolate lab. He was loved and will be dearly missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Frank was born in Diddington, England in 1947. After his Polish Mother and Father survived the labour camps during the Second World War, they immigrated to Canada when Frank was one and a half years old.  They set sail from Liverpool, England to Montreal and then settled on a farm south of Wynyard, Saskatchewan where Frank lived with his family until graduation. In 1967 Frank met the love of his life, Patricia, and they were married in November, 1969. They celebrated the birth of their daughter Deanna in 1975 and son Curtis in 1979. Frank worked for Water Survey of Canada as a Hydrometric Surveyor.  After thirty years of service at the age of fifty he retired in 1997. After retirement he started his own company, Curdee Enterprises (named after Curtis and Deanna), doing construction jobs and soon finding his niche building decks building well over a hundred decks in Calgary.

Frank loved being a part of his community and was always involved with making the community better, whether he was building ice rinks for the kids in the neighbourhood, creating a community basketball league or coaching his children’s sports.

He loved talking to his many neighbours who soon became his lifelong friends. Frank loved taking an annual trip to the lake and teaching his kids and eventually his grandkids how to do the water sports he enjoyed.  He water-skied to the age of sixty-seven. Frank also loved riding his bike.  Just this past winter in Palm Springs he would ride thirty kilometres daily and was proud of the odd day to ride fifty kilometers. Frank always looked forward to his annual trip to Palm Springs, but more than anything, he loved watching his three grandchildren grow up and was very excited to meet his fourth which is due to arrive in June. Frank enjoyed attending ball hockey and ice hockey games, to support his grandchildren and would do anything in his power to help them succeed.  You could see in Frank’s eyes that he truly cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren. Frank wasn’t always a man of many words but would not hesitate to bend Pat’s ear, or any of the numerous neighbors that he would spend hours talking to, to let them all know how proud he was of his children. A love like Frank and Pat’s will never be duplicated and is something we can all admire. They truly set the bar high for us to one day be able to feel this true definition of love. This wonderful man touched so many people’s lives and will forever be missed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Su and all the nursing and medical staff at the Foothills Hospital for their efforts, dedication and compassion while Frank was in their care.  Frank would have liked to specifically thank Dr. Jeremy deBruyn for the years of dedicated medical care which Frank received. The family would also like to say thank you to our many friends and family for their support and kindness during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome to attend and celebrate Frank’s life. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Please accept my condolences. Frank, along with Vance Elder, interviewed and later hired me to work with Water Survey many years ago. This changed the course of my life. Although I was the rookie, he and John Anderson would often invite me to join them on a water skiing adventure. Fond memories.

So sorry to hear about Frank. We were an amazing deck team and his work like his character was flawless. He was an amazing guy and I enjoyed every job we did together. Even if Franks stories about his family and grand kids caused us to take three times longer to complete the job , his company was so worth it. He loved Pat and his family with all his heart and bragged about them every chance he had. I will miss Frank. My thoughts are with you Pat and family.

Although I did not know Frank during his early years growing up in Saskatchewan, our history goes back a long time. During the Second World War, Frank’s dear mother Stefania and my mother, Maria, had an experience of a lifetime. At 16 and 18 years of age, they were taken out of Poland by the Nazis for slave labour in Austria. Mom regarded Stefania as her guardian angel, and if you read Maria’s Story (Friesen Press), you will now why. They eventually ended up in refugee camps in England, married Polish soldiers and emigrated to Canada where they both lived in Saskatchewan but many miles apart. Maria and her family moved to the Okanagan in British Columbia, while Stefania and her brood stayed in Saskatchewan. I got to know Franks a bit better when he, Pat and the kids would come up to Kelowna during summer to do some serious camping along the Lake. He loved the outdoors and he loved the water. His smile brightened everyone’s day just as the Okanagan sun did to the many tourists from the Prairies. Cousin Frank was one of a kind and will be missed by the many friends and family whose hearts he touched during his much-too-short time on Earth. Peace, Frank!

Our sincere condolences to Pat & family. We met in 2011 at Desert Princess and quickly became friends. Frank made the numerous bike rides since then enjoyable but mostly informative, everything from investments to Costco chicken. He certainly kept me up to date on Canadian politics and never complained about any politicians’ decisions without first offering them a solution. We are thinking of you Pat and will stay in touch. Stay strong. Love Roger and Madeleine

Frank truly was a special man to so many. He was a great role model to me and I deeply appreciate being able to have known him. He always made me feel welcome in his home. I always knew I had an ear to listen when I needed one. Growing up close friends with Curtis I got to know Frank quite well. He treated me and so many others like family, and I will never forget that. My deepest condolences especially to Pat, Deanna and Curtis, but also everyone else who had a special connection to Frank. He was a true Hero, if I’ve ever know one. RIP Frank. Thank you for everything you gave this world.
