SJOGREN, Murray Joseph

March 8, 1954 – Wetaskiwin, Alberta
October 18, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Murray’s life was tragically cut short on October 18, 2018 at the age of 64, leaving his loved ones devastated.

Murray is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (nee Topola); children Matthew and Ashley Sjogren, Melissa and Ryan Bazar and Michelle and Matthew Supria; grandchildren Alexander, Lincoln and Madyson Sjogren, Lillian Bazar, Matthius and Mateo Supria; father George (Joyce) Sjogren; siblings Martin (Phyllis) Sjogren, Maureen (Severyn) Zomber, Maryann (Jay) Branch, Marshall Sjogren; nieces and nephews Amy Johnson, Ashley (Tom) Perron, Bennett Branch, Kaitlyn Branch (Ben Simaluk); extended families, many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Ellen Sjogren (nee Gehan) and grandparents Thomas (Mary Alice nee Hastings) Gehan, Sven (Hedvig) Sjogren, all from West of Wetaskiwin.

Murray was one of a kind, who always knew how to put a smile on everyone’s face, using that wry wit he was well known for. For those who knew Murray, he will be remembered as a genuine, honest, and caring person who truly loved his family. As a father he made sure everyone knew how incredibly proud he was of his children and grandchildren and how happy they made him. As a husband, Murray was truly devoted to his wife Marilyn of thirty-five years and they shared a special love for one another.

Many who knew Murray knew he was a gifted guitarist who would rock out with his band (Sub Urban Dwellers) any chance he got. A total Rockstar, Murray could light up any room he would walk into.

Murray leaves a legacy of love and integrity with his family and those who knew him. He has left behind wonderful memories, and set an exemplary example as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was spiritually strong and compassionate, and had a clever sense of humor. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. We are grateful for each and every day we got to see his glowing smile, and for the lessons learned and all the jokes we shared.

It’s hard to forget someone who gave us all so much to remember. We’re all richer having known this truly amazing man. We will miss him more than words can express.

We love you, Murray. Be at peace.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Eastside, 5388 Memorial Drive N.E., Calgary, AB) on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Even though I hadn’t seen Murray for far too long, I remember fondly our early years in Wetaskiwin. Murray was a fun-loving, highly talented character who always brought a smile to our faces. I’m sure he’s riffing with Jimi and the rest of the heavenly rock band now. Go with grace Murray. Our thoughts go out to your family.

  17. Murray has been an important part of Andy and my lives for so many decades, it is hard to imagine life without him in it.
I loved Murray a lot, and not ‘in spite’ of some of his strong personality traits … but BECAUSE of his very individual self. Andy and I have been close friends with Murray and Marilyn and all the close and extended Sjogren family most all of our adult lives. I am blessed in all of you. Murray will never be forgotten, he lives on in my heart, forever.
