SINCLAIR, Kevyn Joy

August 19, 1954 – Calgary, Alberta
January 8, 2019 – Okotoks, Alberta

Kevyn Joy Sinclair, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at the Foothills Country Hospice.

A true Calgarian, she was born, raised, worked, and lived her entire life in the city she called home.

Kevyn attended Henry Wise Wood High School and graduated from the U of C in 1977 with a BComm Accounting. During her working career she held a variety of accounting positions that covered a number of different industries from Oil & Gas, property management, legal, and most recently in the livestock identification services industry.

However, it was in her real job where she truly shone, as a wonderful wife and mother. There were no shortages of challenges associated with managing a husband and four active children, all within five years of age of each other. But she not only succeeded at it, she also seemed to enjoy it.

Between raising her brood and returning to work Kevyn also managed to find the time to take up scrapbooking with Creative Memories, became an accomplished quilter with Along Came Quilting, attend a gym, got interested in knitting, played bridge regularly, and prepared meals on a daily basis.

Once her illness was diagnosed, full-time retirement became a full-time quilting career. Kevyn completely immersed herself into her quilting and this creative activity gave her a focus and purpose to get her up and out of the house. The family is convinced she became Along Came Quilting’s newest best friend. In all seriousness “the girls” as she fondly referred to everyone in those workshops became her support group that helped her face this latest life challenge. Our family will be forever grateful to this group of individuals for the affection they had for Kevyn and their support and help in finishing a number of projects that Kevyn was unable to complete.

We also want to say a special thanks to all the nurses, aides, volunteers and support staff at the Foothills Country Hospice who were so instrumental in making Kevyn’s end of life experience something so special and memorable. You truly live up to your motto of “Care and Compassion”, and our family will be forever grateful.

Kevyn will be lovingly remembered by her husband Duncan; and their four children and son in law, Heather, Courtney, Sara (Greyer Behts) and Ryan. She is also survived by her only sibling, Adrienne Waller (Alf Skrastins) and was predeceased by her parents, Joyce and Richard (Dick) Waller.

Memorial Service to Celebrate Kevyn’s life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Hospitality Center at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Kevyn’s name may be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB, T1S 1S1, Telephone: (403) 995-4673, www.countryhospice.org.

In living memory of Kevyn Sinclair, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Duncan, Heather, Courtney, Sara and Ryan –
Those we love remain with us
    For love itself lives on,
    And cherished memories never fade
    Because a loved one’s gone.
Those we love can never be
    More than a thought apart,
Far as long as there is memory,
They’ll live on in the heart.

All our LOVE – Al and Paulette

  19. Duncan, Heather, Courtney, Sara + Ryan…how privileged are we to give life Duncan, or to ‘the kids’, be born to a mom with the spirit of Kevyn. Joy, who knew it, a fitting middle name associated with a family who continues to animate the cul-du-sac. Over these past months, our family mourns and celebrates life with nostalgia, hanging on to what we imagine as, being summoned to a further purpose. I am certain that Kevyn has woven her joy and legacy into the Sinclair family quilt and was wrapped in the love of her beautiful family. Warm wishes.

  21. We are fondling remembering Kevyn. She was part of our St David’s Time Out program in the late 80’s and also our Stitch group. She was so much fun and always a great, enthusiastic volunteer. We remember her involvement to produce the Time Out cook Book and projects she created at stitch group. We remember her gracious hospitality for stitching group. We enjoyed sharing lives and support as we had young children. When your family moved to southwest Calgary we lost touch. Duncan and family, I’m so sorry to hear of Kevyn’s passing. I first got to know Kevyn and yourself when I was working at Amoco and a bunch of us went to Hawaii with the social club. Over the years, I became friends with Kevyn. Every few months, us ladies would get together to play rummoli. We spent more time talking, laughing, and eating than playing. I remember Kevyn’s bubbly personality and great laugh she had. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
