SIMON, Benjamin (Ben) Frederick

November 24, 1978 – Colchester, Essex, England
June 25, 2019 – Cochrane, Alberta

Benjamin Simon, beloved husband of Jordena Simon (nee Miller), of Cochrane, AB, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the age of 40 years.

Ben was born in Colchester, Essex, England on November 24, 1978. He immigrated to Canada in 1993, with his father Dennis, mother Denise, and brother James. Ben graduated from Bev Facey Senior High School in 1997. He pursued an education at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in the Forestry program, graduating as a Forest Technician in 1999. Ben became a Canadian citizen in 2002 and soon felt the call to serve his country. He started his training with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at Depot Division, Regina. After graduating in 2004 he was first posted in Redcliff, AB followed by a stay in Assumption, AB, and a brief relief tour in Kimmirut NWT. Ben then moved to the Customs and Excise division, and lastly with the Federal Serious and Organized Crime division, both located in Calgary. Ben was a member of the Freemasons, last active with Commercial 81 Lodge in Edmonton. He accomplished much through his life, and was particularly proud of his two commendations, one for fighting fires at the Assumption town site, to help save the houses, and the second, for finding a downed plane in Elkwater, locating and saving the life of the pilot. Ben was also proud to serve on VIP duties for the Dalai Lama, Prince William and Kate, Prince Edward and Sophie, P.M. Harper and V.P. Biden. Although, his most proudest moment by far, was becoming a father to Annabelle and Charles. Ben enjoyed making model airplanes, drawing and colouring with the kids. Ben married Jordena on September 28, 2012 in Cochrane, AB. Ben and Jordena enjoyed travelling together, but their most memorable time was watching West Ham play in Seattle. Ben would be heard saying “come on you irons” while watching West Ham play. A favourite saying amongst Ben and Jordena was “you will always be my greatest adventure”, from their favourite movie Up. Ben will be remembered most for his kindness to others, the love he showed everyone around him and his humour!

Besides his loving wife Jordena, Ben is survived by his daughter Annabelle, and son Charles both of Cochrane, AB; his parents, Dennis and Denise of Sundre, AB; his brother James and sister in-law Carly of Edmonton, AB; his mother and father in-law Deb and Roben of Scott Creek, BC; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle NW, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com.

In living memory of Ben Simon, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE NW, CALGARY, AB T3G 2T3, Telephone: 403-241-0044.

He will be truly missed , but yet he will be also free and at peace . He truly fought a long and hard battle. To his family, parents Dennis and Denise, brother James, wife Jordena and children Annabelle and Charles it will be a long road, but find comfort in the many family and friends who will be by your side. 17. They say that God only takes the good ones, this time he has one of the best. I had the privilege of working with Ben at the RCMP in Calgary. I was a civilian but he treated me as an equal. I will miss his humour, his love of his job. Jordana I never had the honor of meeting you or the children but we all knew that’s where Ben’s heart truly lay. May God keep you safe in his arms.

  18. It is with great sadness that I have learned of the passing of Ben. I’m a retired member of the RCMP, now an Provincial Peace Officer with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, and had the privilege of working with Ben on several Tobacco investigations when he was attached to Calgary Customs & Excise. Ben always stepped up to the plate and did 110% of the job, he truly made a difference and will be missed.

I had the great honour of working in concert with Ben on a number of occasions over his years with the RCMP. We would spend much of our down time discussing his poor choices when it came to football support. Nevertheless, I always think of him whenever I see West Ham are playing Everton. He was a good man with a great sense of humour and an obvious love of life. It is so saddening that he had to leave us. Be forever blowing bubbles Ben.

My heart is so sad to hear of Ben’s passing. I knew him as a kind, gentle man who adored Jordie, Annabella and Charlie. Such an unfair disease, gone much too soon. May your memories bring you comfort.

What a tragedy. Class act. I only met Ben a few times but he definitely had a way of making you feel like you’ve known him forever. He could be your best friend in 5 minutes. Jordena was stoic and will always be. My thought and prayers for you, Charlie and Annabelle. God speed my friend. My brother is waiting with a cold beer.
