SIEWERT, Fred (Freddie)

July 28, 1958 – Calgary, Alberta
June 9, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Freddie Siewert, beloved husband of Connie Siewert (nee Ferguson) of Calgary, Alberta chose to depart this world on his own terms on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the age of 60 years after a long battle with MS.

Freddie was born in Calgary, AB on July 28, 1958 and attended Crescent Heights High School. He loathed bullies and soon became known as the defender of the “little guy.”

Freddie married Connie in December 1985 and was overjoyed at the arrival of his daughter in the spring of 1987.

Freddie’s career of choice was the trucking industry and referred to himself as a commodity relocating engineer and was soon coined with the trucker handle of “Fast Freddie”. He later went on to become a class 1 certified driver instructor. He was a fierce advocate for safety and formal education in the industry and took great care in showing the up and comers how to do it the “right way”.

Freddie enjoyed playing all sports. He particularly excelled at hockey and was encouraged by his coaches to consider playing professionally. He was also an avid “car guy” who loved to frequent Race City to run the quarter mile strip in his beloved Monza Spyder.

He will be most remembered for his witty sense of humor, zest for life and contagious laughter. He had an uncanny ability to take the ordinary and make it special. He will also be remembered for his deep love of animals and the critters of the world insisting that squirrels have rights too.

Besides his loving wife Connie, Freddie is survived by his daughter Cara Siewert (Garry), father Fred Siewert, his brothers, Randy (Jessica) and John (Aileen) and brother-in-law, Barry Ferguson (Lynn) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Louise Clark.

A Celebration of Freddie’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF), https://arf.ab.ca/ and to please hug a loved one and take a moment to express the value they bring to your life.

In living memory of Freddie Siewert, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road SE, Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

  2. I am very saddened to hear about Fred’s recent passing. Through the City of Calgary Adaptive Fitness Program I met Fred and we became friends over the past number of years. I will always remember Fred as a fun and good natured person who was an ardent Calgary Stampeders supporter, and always willing to engage in a friendly wager with the one Saskatchewan fan in our group. Rest well friend, you will be missed.

I am praying for your strength and comfort during this difficult time.
We are so thankful we saw Fred at last Thursday’s class and miss him already. We will always remember his smile, sense of humour, and “drill sergeant” approach to get others in class to work harder and quick slackin’ off.
We miss you and will remember you fondly, always. Rest in peace Fred.
