SCRIVEN, James (Jim) Edward

December 7, 1931 – Edmonton, Alberta
May 26, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jim Scriven at the age of 86 years.

Jim was born in Edmonton, AB and settled in Calgary and the Pincher Creek area in the mid 1950’s, where he enjoyed working in the oil industry for over forty years. He was a kind and good hearted man who loved hockey and his Edmonton Eskimos. He also kept current on world issues by reading the newspapers every day.

Jim is lovingly remembered by his two children Pamela (Biagio) and Bryan (Karen), and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his dear wife of fifty-five years, Pearl.

A family service will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

In living memory of Jim Scriven, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.

    Dear Pamela & Family,
Although we only knew James for less than a year, it was a privilege to have met him. How fortunate we were that James was Mom’s (Iris Gallagher 95 Years) table mate during meals at Age Care Midnapore. Although neither of them spoke very much they were happy to be in each others company. Mom was asked to move to another table twice and both times she said “no” as she told me she liked sitting just where she was!! I suspect it was because of James’ quiet presence. It was a pleasure to have met you and Biagio and I know Mom was pleased as well. Mom told me that the staff adored your Dad as he was always so gentle and kind. Thank-you both for visiting with Mom and for the lovely little plant you left so that she has a reminder of James. James will be missed dearly. May you find peace and solace knowing that he affected others’ lives so positively in such a short time. I shall miss our little visits…Jackie Trafford

    Pam and Bryan,
We are sadden to read that your father passed away over the weekend – our very sincere condolences and sympathy. Jim was a very good friend and mentor to me (Nigel) when I was a young geologist starting out in the oil and gas industry. His kindness, friendship and help extended into our family which we fondly remember.

My condolences to you on the loss of Jim. I visited him in the Beverly Care Midnapore and was impressed with his surroundings and how well you were looking after him.
I enjoyed curling with Jim in a Texaco league and interacting with him at the Texaco luncheons.
