SCISSONS, Florence Catherine (nee Benolkin)

February 20, 1914 – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
August 4, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Florence passed away peacefully at Bowcrest Care Centre in Calgary, AB in her 100th year.

Florence was born in Saskatoon and grew up in Valley Park. She married Kenna Scissons in 1934. They farmed near Saskatoon before moving to the city in 1947, where she resided before moving to a retirement apartment in Calgary in 2006. She was happiest in her home, working in her flower gardens and arranging her flower pots. Florence was a gracious lady with a quick wit and great sense of humour. We will miss her warmth and love, her charm and wonderful, unique personality.

Left to cherish her memory are her children Keith (Louise) Scissons, Carole (George) Perkins, Sharon Schachterle, and Colleen Scissons; grandchildren Timothy Perkins, Blair and Jeffrey Schachterle, Jennifer (Scissons) Jackson, Kenna Burima, Natasha (Burima) Werner, Joseph and Bohdan Burima; great-grandchildren Landen and Adelaine Schachterle, Kade Schachterle, Jet and Gryphon Jackson, Hans and Naomi Werner, Grace, Rose and Henry Burima. Florence was also special to several dear nieces and nephews who were very attentive to her. She was predeceased by her husband Kenna Scissons, grandson Thomas Perkins, son-in-law Alfred Schachterle, parents Mary and William Benolkin, siblings Nicholas, Charles, Frances, Mae, Vera, Edna and Doris.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip Neri Parish(1902 Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon, Sask) on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
