June 21, 1961– June 21, 2012

Raelene of Beiseker, Alberta passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the age of 51 years.

Raelene was born and raised on the family farm in Beiseker, Alberta. After finishing high school, she went on to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated at the top of her class as a Registered Nurse from the Foothills Hospital. Shortly after graduating, Raelene fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling, and spent several months living and working in Denmark and Australia. While there, she made many life-long friends, which she would often return to visit. Raelene worked for several years as a nurse at the University of Alberta hospital, and most recently, at the Strathmore General Hospital. As a young girl, Raelene was active in 4-H beef, clothing, and horse club. Raelene had a love for horses and riding, and took any opportunity she could to enjoy her horses. In recent years, she was able to share that love with Ralph, and together they enjoyed taking their horses to the mountains. Her life’s greatest moment was the birth of her daughter. She dedicated her life to the care and well being of Taylor, who brought her great joy and happiness. Raelene understood the importance of contributing to her community and touched many people with her kindness. She was always “on call” to those in the community who needed some help from a nurse, and friend. Raelene had a gift, and whether it was a medical emergency, or simply setting up for 4-H, those around her felt grounded by her presence. Raelene could often be found reading, tending to her garden, taking photographs of her family and friends, or helping her Mom.

Raelene is survived by her beloved companion Ralph, her daughter Taylor, parents Clarence and Eilleen Schmaltz of Beiseker, sister Charlene (Stu), brother Cameron, nieces and nephews Murray, Kristine, Jake, Bobby, Sara, Anna, and Tyrell, Taylor’s father Brian Konschuh, Taylor’s grandparents, Jim and Edith Konschuh and dear family friends, Jim and Myrna Richards, and their children.

Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, (Beiseker, Alberta) on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. (Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society), Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7 Telephone: (403) 295-1811, www.stars.ca.

In living memory of Raelene Schmaltz, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

Condolences for the family of “SCHMALTZ, Raelene Janice”

Condolence from Rodney Stinn on June 24th, 2012 5:58 PM

I am so saddened upon hearing of Raelene’s passing.
I remember riding our bikes to Clarence’s farm and riding horses with her and Charlene and my brother Wayne.
Raelene and I went to school together, graduated together. She was always a help in school as well.
My condolences to her family and I know Raelene will be missed by many.

Condolence from Marilyn Iking on June 24th, 2012 8:27 PM

Eilleen, Clarence and family – I was so shocked to hear of Raelene’s passing. I remembered all the times we had talked over the years; especially when Taylor was in my grade 1 class. Taylor has a large family to help her through this and I hope she will be OK. I know the grieving process takes awhile. I started to relive the time when Pim passed because it too was due to a car accident. Talking about it has helped me and I think that any time you can talk to somebody, it helps you get through it. My sincere condolences.
Marilyn Iking
